Of all our rock band reunion fantasies, the 'Mats were high on the list. JEMS has a long, rich history with Westerberg & Co., having taped them many times from the '80s through Paul's solo career. So it was with great glee that we entered Memorial Stadium to see our friends Paul and Tommy again. And the show didn't disappoint.

Sometimes when bands reunite much later in life, they can't quite get "that sound" again, and in the case of the 'Mats, how would they ever recreate the ramshackle vibe that had been fueled by youth and alcohol? But to our ears, the 2014 'Mats still sound like the 'Mats should, and while adulthood has arrived, there's still something delightfully off-kilter in that oh-so-attractive way about each performance.

For a stadium set up, JEMS' recording sounds full, relatively punchy and is mostly free of audience noise. Samples provided. We also shot photos and 10-20 of the better ones are included here.
