   4. Sittin' On Top of the World
   5. N.S.U.
   6. Train Time
   7. Steppin' Out
   8. Toad

Geetarz Comments:

"Ulysses" is misspelt on the cover. I refuse to do that further, even in the interest of avoiding any possible confusion. Why? Because I endured four years of Latin/Classical Civ in high school taught by a monster who had a particular idea about how to correct misspelled words. For each instance of a misspelled word, whether on a quiz, test, homework assignment, ANYTHING, one would be required to write the word over, correctly, 25 times. If this was not done at the end of each grading period, 1 point would be deducted from your AVERAGE grade for every 100 words "owed". I had to write "ancient" (which blows the HELL out of the stupid "i before e except after c" rule) "caesar" and "ULYSSES" each about 500 times just to PASS one year, and I'm not going to misspell them again lest the old bat come from her grave and make me do it again! The venue is listed incorrectly on the cover as well. A poor audience recording, really useful only for archival purposes.

SEX PISTOLS
JUNE 4, 1976
MANCHESTER LESSER FREE TRADE HALL

Taper: peyotero

CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is a compilation of 3 sources, edited together on November 2012 (and redone in September 2013), to make the complete gig:

1. Silver CD > Wav > Flac > torrent (EAC, Trader's Little Helper, U-torrent)> Declipped, EQ, Dehissed > WAV > FLAC (Best quality from tracks 01-12, but incomplete, missing the start of track 01)
2. "Alternate version from one Mark B which he got back in June/July 1989.  This is a tape source, no LP crackles at all"> FLAC > EQ > WAV > FLAC (thanks to lammah) (Good quality, has the beginning of track 01 and the last tracks (13-14) with better quality than source 1)
3. Cassette traded in c.1989.  Nth gen cassette copy of a very scratched bootleg vinyl > wav (no processing) > CDWave(cut on sector boundaries) > flac(6) > Tried to denoise and declick this source > WAV (Thanks to Egg_Crisis) (Average quality, has the complete intro of the concert(track 01))

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=310010 Torrent by starboy, comes from another incomplete version of the show.

01.Did You No Wrong (mix of 3 (concert intro), 2 (beginning of the song) and 1 (best quality but cut))
02.No Lip (source 1)
03.Seventeen (source 1)
04.(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone (source 1)
05.New York (source 1)
06.Whatcha Gonna Do About It (source 1)
07.Submission (source 1)
08.Satellite (source 1)
09.No Feelings (source 1)
10.No Fun (source 1)
11.Substitute (source 1)
12.Pretty Vacant (source 1; encore cheering from source 2)
13.Problems (source 2)
14.No Fun (mix of 2 (cut) and 1; source 1 at this song is quite slow, so I used Adobe Audition's stretch at 93%, if I do remember correctly, for the very end of this track)

You can find some great photos of the gig here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/04/the-sex-pistols-punk-music_n_3383301.html

Thanks so much to the DIME users peyotero, lammah, Egg_Crisis and starboy for making this possible!

Other versions of the gig not used on this:

Lineage: Marantz MF1 c60 cassette (physical copy from Šumnij_Smagsprøve) > SONY TC-WE435 >
M-AUDIO 24/96 audiocard > PC > Adobe Soundbooth 1.0 > WAV 16/44 > Audacity (splitting) >
TLH > FLAC Level 8 (SB Aligning + Test encoded files) ~ 16/44,1kHz

Quite similar to version 2 (Substitute cut, No fun#2 complete), but with bad quality.

http://www.punktorrents.com/thread-138622.html

Manchester Arndale Market Bootleg Stall> Technics RS-T22 (azimuth adjusted)> WaveLab (track splits)> TLH (Flac 8)

If I remember correctly, this sounds similar to I Swear I Was There, but the intro to track 1 fades up differently and has a little bit more noise.

INFO SOURCE 1:

http://www.discogs.com/Sex-Pistols-I-Swear-I-Was-There-/release/2581459

INFO SOURCE 2:

I was told by MarkB that his copy originated from a trader named Dave Lees (2 generations up), wouldn't think the name means anything to anybody here besides craigie*...and I bet his copy is at least two generations or more removed from the circulating 2nd gen the taper credits all extant copies being sourced from.

Sex Pistols

Lesser Free Trade Hall, Manchester, UK, 1976.06.04 (4th June)

Cassette traded in c.1989.  Nth gen cassette copy of a very scratched bootleg vinyl > wav (no processing) > CDWave(cut on sector boundaries) > flac(6)

You can get rid of the hiss quite nicely using Adobe Audition's hiss reduction (standard) setting, however I didn't like the way it caused a sortof after-echo type sound with all the vinyl clicks so I left it unprocessed.  It'd have probably been fine to dehiss if it hadn't been for all the vinyl clicks.

Tracklist: [extra bits not present in starboy's torrent indicated in square brackets]

[45 seconds of audience sounds and an extra 10 seconds of Did You No Wrong.  There wasn't that much missing after all]
01 Did You No Wrong
02 No Lip
03 Seventeen
04 (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone
05 New York (Looking For A Kiss)
06 Whatcha Gonna Do About It?

(tracks 7-10 missing)

11 Substitute (1st 10 seconds missing, fades in)
12 Pretty Vacant
[13a encore break 1 = 1min27sec of audience sounds]
13b Problems
[14a Encore break 2 = 2min51 of audience sounds]
[14b No Fun]

Full interview:
http://www.jonsavage.com/film/bernard-sumner/

Was he (Ian Curtis) at the Pistols gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall?

I don’t know. I didn’t know him at that point, this gig where we met him was after that one. I was at the first one.

Did you like it?

Malcolm McLaren was on the ticket office at that one… Yeah, I recorded that gig, but it turned out so distorted that it was unlistenable. I did like it, yeah. I didn’t think they were good, I thought they were bad, but that’s why I liked it. I thought they destroyed the myth of being a pop star, or of a musician being some kind of god that you had to worship. In fact a friend who was with me said, Jesus, you could play guitar as good as that.

Who did you go with?

I went with Hooky and Terry, our roadie. Looks like George Formby on an E. Terry is a bit of an odd-looking chap, as you can agree from the photograph, he’s into all these oddball groups like. He’d read somewhere about the Sex Pistols having a fight onstage and he dragged us down to see them.

Klooks Kleek, London, England
Viktorie (NS 13028)

Doc´s Vinyl Box Vol. 3:
CREAM, London, Klooks Kleek Club, November 15, 1966
off Super rare Dutch  Vinyl Boot "A Group called CREAM" on Viktorie Label!

In the "Doc´s Vinyl Box" series, I will upload some CDR copies of  some very rare Original Bootleg vinyl LP´s
from my collection!
Some tapes of great shows never surfaced and the only source for this stuff, up to today, is the original vinyl Bootleg LP!
Some of the first original pressings often sounds better than expected.........

Today I`m uploading one of my favorite CREAM shows ,
transfered from the very first issue of a Dutch  vinyl Boot,  only seen once, .....
I had a repressing on TMQ label before, which didn´t sound as good as the Original pressing ,
but also only found two times!
This show is, as far as I know, the earliest CREAM concert recording!
It includes more spontaneous playing of short versions of the common CREAM songs than the later shows,
plus a rare rendition of "Lawdy Mama", my favorite number here!

The recording sounds great for it´s time,  and the show is probably one of the hottest CREAM
shows ever!
The Viktorie Boot recording is in a real nice "Electronic Stereo" mix also different from the repressing, which used only one channel from the original issue

Although this show is credited to be recorded in Rotterdam, NL, it is well known in the CREAM scene that it is originally recorded in London at the Klooks Kleek Club Nov 1966!
The vinyl is in good shape , a near mint cpoy, but the vinyl has a few very small "holes" in it´s surface ,
but the overall sound is really great!

Tracklist:
01 Hey Lawdy Mama
02 Sleepy Time Time
03 Crossroads
04 Stepping Out
05 Sweet Wine
06 Meet Me In The Bottom

Yes - Teatro Brancaccio, Roma, Italy, May 11th 1971, from FB master.

Fixed up in September 2006 by TheTooleMan

Anyone willing to endure the trials of listening to a disintegrating recording of a fantastic performance will be amply rewarded. This is no sonic marvel, but it captures a rare performance of Steve Howe and Tony Kaye in peak psychedelic form while playing "Everydays." And in 35 years of listening of Howe playing "Clap," I don't think he ever topped this performance.

As someone in the band says, "Far out."

Here's what I did to improve this recording:

* create tracks in the appropriate places
* joined parts of songs which were interrupted or repeated due to tape flips
* reduced the pitch of the recording by up to 3 semitones between the beginning and the end of the recording
* EQ to reduce rumble and bring out more of the bass
* hiss reduction
* cut out extraneous clicks and pops, filled drop-outs, and smoothed transitions between tracks

As with the disclaimers on old commercial CD's, imperfections in the original tape may become more obvious with digital transfers and reproduction. In this case, the tape sounds like it was damaged and plays at irregular speed throughout. This could not be fixed in remastering. In one or two places, notably during "Everydays" and "America," the tape sounds like it has been stretched and is about to stop playing altogether. Fortunately, it does not.

1. Also Sprach Zarathustra
2. Yours Is No Disgrace
3. I've Seen All Good People
4. Clap > Classical Gas
5. Perpetual Change
6. Everydays
7. America

See the notes from the torrent of the original tape for information about the transfer of the tape: "Yes 5.11.71 38f torrent notes.txt" which is included in this torrent. Thanks to 38f who provided it!

Happy listening,

TheTooleMan

"Probably soundboard"

Transfer from Vinyl to Sound Blaster Live, via Line In using Sound Forge 4.5 recorder.

This performance should not be confused with the Warners broadcast show from the same venue on the same night and put out as the promo "2-sides Live"
The source of these files is a 1984 vinyl boot with the title "Another Time Another Place".
These files were put up on DC on 1st Dec 2001 and will only be avalailable through me for 14 days. After this they will be removed.
The initial source file played back too fast. Playback speed has been rectified and as much distortion and hiss as possible was removed in Sound Forge 4.5 and "Noise Reduction"

There is a slight gap before track 7. I have not put in a fade.

Original radio show broadcast vinyl>Technics SL21000 deck, Stanton 500 cartridge>JVC AZ-V4 amplifier>
Sound Blaster Live Line In (sorry I will upgrade one day)
Recorded at 16 bit, 96 000 Hz using Sound Forge 6.>SHN

Timing was a little out so file was adjusted to correct time/pitch.
Files were resampled to 44 100 Hz for CD compatibility and split in CD wav.

No other form of sound adjustment has been made.
The disc is over 20 years old and there were a couple of clicks (one big one in track 2) and a little surface noise during the quieter songs.

This show has been widely bootlegged and few people seem to know that it was originally distributed as a broadcast vinyl to college radio stations and the like.
I seem to recall reading at some point (if anyone knows where I might have read this please let me know as I have forgotten)
that this disc was pressed in larger numbers than most radio show discs and that a good number were used for promotion.
I won´t say where mine came from, or what I paid for it. But it is an original, not one of the many bootlegs that were pressed.
It has long been one of the unattainable U2 items I never thought I would get to own.

I have included a picture of the disc in the set of files.

The best CD bootleg out there of this show is the Swinging Pig release "Another Time another Place".
I compared my copy of that CD with these files and noticed a couple of discrepancies.
This suggests to me that the sound had been digitally adjusted and that disc noise has probably been removed in mastering.
At the quiet parts I could even hear some hiss, which suggested that that CD may even come from a (Very low gen) cassette source, and not the vinyl one I initially believed.
The sound levels are very different too. The vinyl version has a more shrill-sounding top-end and the cymbal sounds are very prevalent, more so than on the CD release.

Ultimately it is a question of taste whether you prefer this one or the other one. But you could always clean it up yourself.
Tracks 4,5,7,9,11,12,13,14 have all been released as b-sides, tracks 9 and 12 on CD even... But most are not available now.

Source and taper unknown.

Because the sound quality wasn't the same for the whole tape I have equalized it.
That's why there is hiss during the first songs.
Between Things to make and do and Stories for boys , Out of control and 11 O'clock tick tock was a gap in the audience
I mixed the audience parts together.
