Excellent Audience recording!
On occasion, rabid screaming women can be heard in the background.

My friend Bubba informed me that Sammy Hagar and The Circle would be performing 2 hours north of my home while I was at Dallas' Hair Metal Holiday show last December.
According to the full page newspaper advertisement presented by Bubba, The Circle would be appearing at the Grand Event Center of the Winstar Casino in June of 2017.
Bubba is a big Sammy Hagar fan, so we decided on the spot to attend the gig. I bought our tickets  to the sold out show, for a few dollars below face value on StubHub (great site for last minute deals), nine days before the gig.
We headed to Thackerville around 3PM on June 2nd. Unfortunately, we got caught in a STRONG North Texas storm in Grapevine, Texas and decided to pull off the road for an early dinner. After detouring several times to avoid flash flooding in the area, we arrived at the venue around 7PM. A traditional two hour road trip was stretched into four due to inclement weather. Ugh! Once inside the building we walked around the Winstar Casino. Michael Anthony's bass tech Kevin Dugan walked right by me like a man on a mission. After he walked by, I told Bubba that I should have said hello. Missed opportunity to meet a vital member of the Van Halen crew! Oh well.
We then decided to enter the "Global Event Center". Being that Bubba and I were both carrying M10 recorders, mics, and preamps, we made sure to properly conceal our gear.
To our surprise, we were allowed to walk right into the venue with no entrance screening whatsoever. While I appreciate the fact that we were allowed to walk into the theater without being treated like criminals, the lack of proper security screening makes it very easy for alibaba-mohammed types to walk in and blow people up. This is concerning in the post 9/11 world.

I would like to advise my fellow music fans to avoid attending shows at the "Global Event Center" of the Winstar Casino in Thackerville.
This venue has a horrible floor plan. The floor is a wide open space with seats crammed in like sardines. The seats at the very back of this large banquet hall room are on elevated bleachers.
We were in floor seats in section B row 12 right in front of the soundboard. I am a thin guy. I must state that being squeezed into a seat for several hours totally sucked.
The Circle concert would have been MUCH MORE enjoyable if it was a general admission event. I don't like smelling or hearing my neighbors at live events!
I would never attend another show at the "Global Event Center" again! Even if the original line-up of Guns N' Roses were performing there!
Seriously, the "Global Event Center" is a glorified dive bar. Avoid it, rock fans!!

Unfortunately, there was a noisy woman named Julie sitting next to Bubba (2 seats to my left).
We struck up a conversation with Julie and her husband during the intermission.
They noticed that we were setting up recording gear. I told her we were planning to capture audio of the concert.
I respectfully asked Julie to keep the noise down as we were trying to get the cleanest captures possible.
My simple request did no good. Julie would go on to howl, whistle, and clap, for the duration of the 90 minute Circle performance.
There was also a woman behind me who also felt compelled to scream like a hillbilly banshee on occasion.
I have attempted to minimize the impact of these two inconsiderate broads during the mastering process.
Keep in mind that the venue was packed full of drunken rednecks and goat-ropers from 'MURICA.
It could have been MUCH worse! Some people are just shamelessly rude...
Thanks Julie!

My main gripe was the brevity of The Circle's set. 15 tunes spread over an hour and a half.
Taking into account that The Circle performs music from all era's of Sammy Hagar's storied career, as well as Led Zeppelin material in honor of Jason Bonham's legendary father, John,
I believe that 45+ years worth of classic hard rock cannot be distilled into a 90 minute "hits" setlist.
I would have enjoyed hearing more classic material from the "forgotten" Van Halen era!!
It is blatantly obvious that Vic Johnson is a monster guitarist.
As the only member of The Circle who is not a household name (yet), Vic deserves more time to shine!
Jason Bonham is one of the world's best drummers. A rendition of Moby Dick would have been appropriate!
This being said, The Circle should live up to the hype, and perform for a minimum of TWO HOURS as headliners...

Hearing Hagar get the years wrong for certain songs was perplexing.
For example, Sammy screamed "1992!" at the beginning of Poundcake.
Every Van Halen fan on Earth knows that song was released in 1991!
Right before Runaround, Hagar belted out "1995!", which made me think a track from the final Van Hagar album, Balance, was on the way.
Sammy forgot the first verse of Runaround and discussed his memory issues with Michael while the band continued playing. Senior moment?!?

As a die-hard Diamond Dave fan, I felt slightly out of place at The Circle show.
I was there to support Van Halen's bassist and secret weapon, Michael Anthony, and to hear his iconic voice on the Van Hagar material...
The last time I saw Sammy and Mike live was during the Van Halen "Balance Tour" in Austin, TX on September 30, 1995 (does anyone have a recording?).
Excluding Michael from the David Lee Roth/Van Halen reunion was a criminal act and will be remembered as an all-time travesty in rock history.
At the end of the concert, Sammy and Michael flashed the Van Hagar hand gesture to the crowd. Keeping the spirit of Van Halen alive was appreciated by the fans.
As a massive fan of both eras of Van Halen, this show made me lament over the fact that America's GREATEST rock band is so damn dysfunctional!!!
I hope that the next time I see Sam and Mike, it will be with Dave, Ed, and Alex in tow at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX!

The 20 minute acoustic opening set by Andrew Hagar was also taped. I don't intend to share this recording, as the volume of the PA was very low.
Bubba captured both sets with my CA-14 mic, CA-9200 preamp, and 2nd M10 recorder. However, it is bass heavy and not very enjoyable because Bubba sat for most of the show.
I don't plan to release the CA-14 capture...

Let me tape your band in DFW! Reasonable rates and quick turn around!
I'll tape ANYTHING for a price...

URGENT: I am interested in taping the Guns N' Roses performances at the Alamodome in San Antonio on September 8, 2017, as well as at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on November 17, 2017.
However, I am NOT interested in spending $300 to see Guns N' Roses AGAIN!
If you have an extra ticket to spare, please keep me in mind. Thank you!!
