You're A Big Girl Now

This is part of my Masters Series these are those of my retired friend but others may follow.  It will be  a long series if we do them all
This will also be the last dvd for a  week t0 give you chaps time to catch up. I already have the next 10 ready and waiting...
This one is a rag-bag of shorts, mostly shpws my man got caught at basically.

The originals were shot on 3 formats
VHS-E30s, Super VHS and DV  I am transferring the DVs first. All will be HQ mode so apologies that this creates extra discs but I am determined to preserve the quality as far as possible.

I am sorting tapes as I go they will not be in any particular order, and please don't request specific shows, this is a  huge project which will be best tackled methodically

Finally a word of thanks is owed to my generous friend for supplying them and my other very  helpful friends who have aided in locating cameras and things and now left therby making all the work (and tapes!) possible. Well I don't sleep a lot anyways !!

Fleetwood Mac 1977-08-25 Alladin Center For The Performing Arts, Las Vegas, NV

Fleetwood Mac - Mega-rare restored vinyl "Sin City 77" Alladin Center For The Performing Arts, Las Vegas 1977-08-25 Top ten FM show in excellent quality! (mp3 sample included)

The old guy returns for a while...

This is in my opinion one of the finest Fleetwood Mac shows ever put on tape. Not only are you getting the group in its prime while riding high on the "Rumours" tour, you are getting a heartfelt, genuine performance as well. The entire group is at peak, with Stevie Nicks as a standout. She has never sounded better. She catapoults both "Dreams" and particularly "Rhiannon" into the stars. The girl is on fire, and it shows.

Althoug labeled as "Mega-rare", this double boot LP along with the Jethro Tull title "A Sack Full Of Trousersnakes" sold out very quickly and was repressed several times. This torrent is taken from a nearly mint first edition on Dragonfly Records. But even if you have this album, your humble seeder believes you have never heard it properly. All copies of this show ran just fast enough to make the performance sound a little sick. I've corrected the speed to make the the album pitch properly. Even though this was just by a small amount, it makes a huge difference in the sound quality.

This album is labled "entire concert". Well, maybe it is and maybe it isn't. I have heard that "Monday Morning" may in fact have been played and isn't on this two-record set.

I'll be dropping in soon with more goodies already in the oven.

Setlist:

Intro/Say You Love Me
Dreams
Oh Well
Rhiannon
Oh Daddy
Never Going Back Again

Over My Head
Gold Dust Woman

---------
SOUTHAMPTON '77
Gaumont Theatre - Southampton, England
Jan 20th, 1977

Presented by the Genesis Authentic Soundboard Project
GASP #001
Thanks: WB, GG, DD, NB, AV, DK

Changes Made (Nero 7):
Noise Print NR, removed most of the noise, but some remains on the right channel
Cross-mixed all tracks (87:13)
Slight treble lift to match original
Cut the silence between d1t05>6 & d2t02-3
Cross-faded several tracks to smooth transitions
Fixed glitches at 5.27 (d1tr06), 0.50 (d1tr07), 2.44 (d2tr02), 1.30 (d2t05)
Left channel reduction by 3% (disk1) 5-10% (disk 2) to centre stereo image
Fixed left channel offset in the first 2min of d1t01
Fixed volume level shifts on several tracks, 2sec - 2min.

Transfer: shn > mkw > Nero > Flac Fontend (level 6)

Quality: A++
--------------

The original - posted specifically to encourage remastering - is great sounding but very
raw, with significant noise and hum, plus (as mentioned in the original comments) some
phasing which makes the instruments / singing indistinct.

As I started to edit, it was obvious that the noise print is representative of FM with
the multiplex filter at 19-20khz clearly visible, so with Phil's comments during the
show about broadcasting live to hospitals, I can only assume that the noise is due to
the FM distribution of the concert, with very little contributed by the SBD.

Details of the work I did are above, the key resulting improvements being...
- Significantly less noise / hum, although a little remains just on the RH channel
- Instrument dynamics are clearer / punchier
- Phil's voice / diction is clearer
- Steve's playing (low in the mix at times) can now be heard

Overall, I would rate this significantly higher than other (Genesis-Movement) A+ rated
1977 shows such as Sao Paulo and Zurich Revisited...

...Hope you enjoy it too !!

Note:  This is a 164/44.1 file set, which can be readily burned to CD.  A 24-bit, higher-fidelity version has been posted separately.  The recording is seamless; the disc breaks above are merely a suggestion.

Comments:

The third of five nights in Chicago, and the best performance so far with a bunch of oddities in the set. "Gloria" makes its first appearance in the set since nearly ten years ago at the end of the "Vertigo" tour (12/14/05), the second performance of "Lucifer's Hands" (the first being in Montreal on 6/13), and only the second performance of "All I Want Is You" on the current tour (the first in L.A. 5/31).  Bono was clearly inspired by the Gay Pride parade which took place in Chicago earlier in the day, and there were multiple references to the celebration of gay rights and the power of love.  Inspiring show.  Bono references that several band members' sons (I think Bono's, Edge's, and Larry's) were all in attendance tonight, as well as Bono's wife.

In terms of recording quality, tonight was one of those rare nights where everything came together.  I was in a direct line to one of the overhead speaker stacks, and the audience members in my immediate vicinity were pretty quiet.  There's some chatter during the quiet parts, but none that I could hear intruding on the music.  I'm very happy with this recording.

Anyone who would like to remaster this recording and repost it is welcome to do so; in the info file, please document the original source and note what you did to the original recording. s.

A great show from a great band.  From the DAT Master.  If this recording has leaked our before, it was probably was a raw cassette copy.  Lots of work went into this version.

The first show I ever recorded on DAT.  The Aiwa was the first portable DAT recorder.  A gray market thing that ran on expensive rechargeable batteries.  Given that I was new to the deck, there are a couple of issues.  The beginning of I Don’t Know is distorted, and LOTD has a few seconds of dead air in the middle the song.  I had probably changed batteries during the encore break, and fumbling with the deck I inadvertently  turned the record level down to nothing.  Not my greatest recording ever, but certainly worth a listen.  And these guys are fantastic.  Samples below.

Notes:
Different transfer of the same first gen tape I torrented in 2004. I'm not sure what happened with that first transfer, but there were a handful of digital errors in it.
This one is digital error free, done with a standalone and tracked with a standalone. The guitar solo is split into two tracks because there was a tape change on the a
and the person marking the tracks had to pause the machine to change the tapes, and on a standalone, a pause automatically creates a new track. I didn't feel like changing anything whatsoever about this transfer, other than that the original CDRs I got had another band's show tacked on the end of it from the same tape. I didn't include those tracks. So there might be a couple of second of silence or something, but it's not a digital error, it's just how it was transferred on the standalone and I'm not changing it.

This is a verified 1st generation copy, and one of the best quality 1982 recordings. The only thing better than this copy would be the master tape, which we'll never hear because the taper died a few years ago. Therefore please THROW OUT every other copy of this, including my 2004 torrent. Please THROW OUT your tapes unless you have a different source. Sorry about the confusion to the trading pool, but this is now the standard for this show, and there shouldn't be any more confusion.

Thanks to M.P. for transferring his 1st gen tape.

Review:
A very intense and powerful show but plagued with some PA problems. Plant: "Once
again, as last time in the State of Ohio, we find that the PA system is completely
inaudible; but, nevertheless, we'd like to carry on ... I think I'd better get out
of the way ... If we go up with a flash and a bang..." The first two songs are very
powerful and Robert's voice is simply devastating. Page is playing great and the
rhythm section is unalterable in Dazed And Confused and incendiary and dynamic in
How Many More Times, steering the group through the changes.

Konserthuset, Örebro, Sweden
November 6, 1969
- Pitch-corrected re-upload -

Fellow Dimer and Co-Macanatic Bert (pernod here on Planet Dime) applied his bat-ears, and noticed that the recording ran considerably fast. Fortunately for all of us Macantatix and Greenionados, he was so kind and took it upon himself to do the necessary pitch correction by a vast -4,2% (mind that 5% is about a semi-note!). For details see info below. So, this is definitely an upgrade to my previous torrent.
--------------------------------------
Lineage: unknown Swedish taper & equipment > my unknown but apparently pretty low gen. CD-R copy (acquired in late 90's trade/swap) > wav > Audacity (for slight editing, auto-boosting levels etc.) > wav > FLAC (level 8) > Dime > revised by pernod/Bert13 on December 10, 2017 with Adobe Audition 3.0.1: speed corrected to 95.8 shrink, partly clip restored / balanced channels, track transitions cleaned up, a few clicks removed, retracked, tracked with CD Wave, encoded to flac 8 with TLH, tagged with foobar2000 > Dimeadozen on December 13, 2017 by DocDondy.

Sound quality: 4 (out of 6)/vg+
Audio sample in comments.

Comes with full colour cover artwork using contemporary pix and memorabilia (PDF files). Comments welcome! :-)

Total run time: 83:24 min.

Line-up:
Peter "Greeny" Green - guitar, vocals
Danny "Youngeyes" Kirwan - guitar, vocals
Jeremy Spencer - guitar, vocals
John McVie - bass
Mick "Rattlesnake Shaker" Fleetwood - drums

This is a nice companion to The Mac's November 4, 1969 Stockholm show - though with its only c. 90 min. of run time, it is considerably shorter than its Swedish Tour cousin, and unfortunately comes with less rarely played numbers. That may be the reason why I haven't had this on my "must torrent" priority list so far. However, it still has not shown up here in all the Dime years, plus I do know there are more than a few Macionados around here who may either not have it yet or only have a one of the lesser sounding copies floating around in collectorland. Therefore, it should be a useful addition to most MaCollectors' collections esp. as they do play a bunch of not-too-often-played numbers such as their tour-de-force take of Otis Rush's "It Takes Time", "Sugar Mama", and - a real rarity and gem - a not less than 10 (!) min. version of "Worried Dream" (yes, THAT number!).

Their then latest single "Rattlesnake Shake" was freshly introduced into their set in October 1969 and comes with pieces of "Madge" instead of the later common inclusion of "Underway". One of Mac's stage strengths were their ever changing set lists which makes collecting their live shows even more exciting. They obviously had a huge repertoire to draw from without trouble. Rather cool in my (Mac) book! :-)

Please do NOT spread this show in lossy formats - otherwise: enjoy, trade, share!

(Greeny's) Mac ahoy!

When I first played at matrixing That's The Way, just for fun, I was amazed how good
it sounded, and had to seriously consider what I was about to do before I went any
further. This is Blueberry Hill, after all, not just another 77 show, and two audience
sources to slip together, a bit of a daunting task. But every time I played That's The
Way it just convinced me that a good matrix could be made from these two sources, and I honestly think I did this amazing show justice. It was a real pleasure to work on,
the sound of the two sources combined to produce something very enjoyable by
comparison, totally different from either of them, but I will leave it to others to comment.

I am certainly going to avoid the minefield of the various sources but the two [or more]
tapers used on the two main sources sat very close together, and at times the two sources sounded almost identical. There are also numerous cuts in both.

Thanks to Black Dog for letting me use the GM source.

- Pitch-corrected re-upload -

Fellow Dimer and Co-Macanatic Bert (pernod here on Planet Dime) applied his bat-ears, and noticed that a major part of the recording ran considerably fast. Fortunately for all of us Macantatix and Greenionados, he was so kind and took it upon himself to do the necessary pitch correction for the first tracks by -3,5% (which is clearly audible) up to including "Albatross"; funnily, the remainder of the show obviously ran OK on my cassette copy. For details see info below. So, this is definitely an upgrade to my previous torrent.

This is something real interesting from a Peter Green nut's POV which I've always enjoyed a lot and wanted to share with all Macanatix here in Dimetown and elsewhere. Well, we get rare and stellar tracks galore: the show starts off with the rarely played "Albatross" single B-side "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues", and the affair grows mightily from there. Otis Rush's "It Takes Time" is another all-too-seldom played PG-cum-Danny Kirwan tour-de-force which they really should have recorded for a Mac album. And same goes for the next track, "I Held My Baby Last Night", of which we haven't heard many renditions, either.

"Rattlesnake Shake" was another fresh, October 1969 introduction into their set and comes with some "Madge" parts instead of the later common inclusion of "Underway" as officially documented on their February 1970 Boston shows. The long rendition of B.B. Kings "All Over Again" is another rarity and a prime example of Greeny's almost painfully deep feel for the Blues. Breathtaking, you bet - and just another lost gem with regards to an album recording! Too bad they didn't play this and "It Takes Time" on their Boston shows as they would have been recorded there. Sigh!
And finally we get to hear a veeeery long "Need Your Love so Bad", another popular though strangely not so often revisited number.

One of Mac's strengths were their ever changing set lists which makes collecting their live shows even more exciting. They obviously had a huge repertoire to draw from without trouble. Rather cool in my (Mac) book! :-)

Please do NOT spread this show in lossy formats - otherwise: enjoy, trade, share!

Uploaded to Dimeadozen on December 13, 2017 with big time thanks again to pernod-Bert by DocDondy for all fellow Macionados to enjoy.

(Greeny's) Mac ahoy!
