Tokyo, Japan
Nippon Budokan
March 31, 1976
Empress Valley released their first Queen bootleg earlier this year, and it's a monster ! It's a box set containing nine discs of all four Tokyo shows on the A Night At The Opera tour, six of which are previously uncirculated pre-LP tapes that were first released only on vinyl in incomplete form over 40 years ago. Only 100 copies of the box set were pressed.
Three tracks from the March 31 show were first heard on the "Invite You To A Night At The Budokan" LP released in 1976, and later on various bootleg re-releases mostly in worse quality. A second source of the nearly complete show was later released in the 1990s on CDR as "Royal Opera Comes To Japan". EV uses the original uncut source, most of which has never seen the light of day until now.
This is Queen coming off their creative peak and at the top of their game. Sound quality is pretty near excellent throughout.
Thanks to Masahiko for dishing out the shekels for the silvers and sending me the FLAC files, to Empress Valley for what is hopefully their first of many releases of new Queen tapes, and to the original tapers, whoever you are !
