A bass-playing Sumner and his two bandmates did a woeful job of bashing their way through a set of Coldplay-inspired rock 'n' lite reggae last night. It's a good thing then, that it was Joe Sumner and his tepid foray into the family business known as Fiction Plane and not the main gig as anchored by Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner — better known to the world as Sting.

That Sting's son's band opened for The Police's first tour appearance in Toronto since 1983 cast a nepotistic pall over the early evening — particularly considering Joe plays bass and yelp-sings almost exactly like his dad, minus the charisma. About their only high point was single "Two Sisters," but even that was an act of imitation.

The short intermission video that took place during the changeover didn't bode well either. Sure, everyone loves Bob Marley and footage of him doing sit-ups is fun, but the extended coverage of models walking catwalks was an inexplicable inclusion that seemed straight out of Fashion File's b-roll archives.

There was great relief when Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland took to the stage to right early wrongs. They started off with the beloved "Message In A Bottle" and, with the house lights on high in the ACC, the sold-out show was instantly converted into a dancing, singing mass.

"Synchronicity II" made for an enjoyable first dip into deep-cut territory and "Walking On The Moon" triggered a football stadium-spirited singalong on top of showcasing Sting's still-got-it pipes. Indeed, the singer effortlessly made everyone in the building feel common and inferior. The 55 year old is still completely ripped — no doubt explaining the enthusiasm of the substantial hot 905 mom demo in the audience — and his voice has maintained itself with remarkable agelessness.

The medley of "Voices Inside My Head" and "When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around" followed by "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and "Driven To Tears" represented the low point of the show. It was a section of self-content adult-contempo that threatened to unravel the show's early goodwill until all was corrected with the punkish "Truth Hits Everybody."

That dynamic jolt was just what the audience and The Police needed to push the show from rote nostalgia into something more genuine. The next level fully hit when an elaborate percussion set, complete with giant gong, suddenly materialized for the start of "Wrapped Around Your Finger." A wild-eyed Copeland managed to ratchet up his monomaniacal playing to even greater heights when he'd foray over to his more exotic kit.

A last quarter blast of hits "Invisible Sun," "Walking In Your Footsteps," "Can't Stand Losing You" and a sprawled out jam of "Roxanne" sealed the deal. There was little of the much rumoured, much worried about jazz noodling, and lots of hits, which was just what the people wanted.

"King Of Pain," "So Lonely" and "Every Breath You Take" represented the first encore. The playing of those tracks seemed a bit cursory, particularly on their big stalker hit and "Next To You," which was something of an anti-climactic second encore closer. That said, The Police's string of hits and technical competency retained an overall vibrancy rarely seen in the nostalgia/reunion/classic rock circuit. The result was a real and vital Police show still worthy of matching their legacy.

Here is the set list:

"Message In A Bottle"
"Synchronicity II"
"Walking On The Moon"
"Voices Inside My Head"
"When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around"
"Don't Stand So Close To Me"
"Driven To Tears"
"Truth Hits Everybody"
"The Bed's Too Big Without You"
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"
"Wrapped Around Your Finger"
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da"
"Invisible Sun"
"Walking In Your Footsteps"
"Can't Stand Losing You"
"Roxanne"

Encore:

"King Of Pain"
"So Lonely"
"Every Breath You Take "
"Next To You"

From Brucebase-ONE show, with Springsteen & The E Street Band the sole act on the bill. This gig is often mistakenly listed as having taken place at Springfield College, however there was no school association with this concert. The above-mentioned setlist is culled from an audience tape of fair quality (it distorts at the low end) and represents the entire performance. Interestingly "She's The One" starts with a rap that Bruce would use more extensively during the shows in the Fall of 1976. Available on the CDR "BACK TO SCHOOL".

Fleetwood Mac 1970-03-06 Sporthalle Böblingen, Germany

LDB Vintage Series #032

Hi there! After closing both my Master and Special series I took a break from seeding, enjoying life and most of all
preparing for a new series! This is not going to be as frequent as my previous ones, I'll be seeding shows from time
to time so don't expect massive volumes here.

Why a "vintage" series? Because music in the 70's and 80's was really something...so different, so special with "that" kind
of sound which you don't find anymore. That was the era of real music without the internet, of long tours and enjoyable live
shows spanning from metal to new wave, progressive, jazz, fusion, pop. So many bands were born and disappeared during those
two decades.

I am then celebrating the 70's and the 80's and their unmistakeable sound in this LDB Vintage Series. You will find many bands
I have never seeded in the past but that I still enjoy listening to. Most of these come from low generation tapes that were traded
around that period, many radio broadcasts and overall lots of surprises.

Hope you will enjoy this new series!

Mick Fleetwood: Drums
Peter Green: Lead Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica
John McVie: Bass Guitar
Jeremy Spencer: Vocals, Guitar
Danny Kirwan: Vocals, Guitar

One of the very last recorded shows featuring Peter Green, it somehow closes an era for Fleetwood Mac. He would leave a mere two months
after this show. Typical setlist from 1970 and clearly in the blues zone, as it was for the first FM period.

Strange to listen to Black Magic Woman prior to Santana covering it.

Soundwise this is of course a 46 years old recording, and it shows its age, however this is not too bad to listen to.
You just cannot discuss 70's music without mentioning Fleetwood Mac and the genious of Peter Green!

Yes at the International Amphitheatre Chicago Illinois September 22nd 1980

This was one of those recordings that grew on me the more plays it got. The sound was not too hot as the Amphitheater can do to you. But this really ended up a great listening show. Thumbs up on this performance. The show was in the round (revolving center stage) and I believe this was the first of two nights. There was a power failure that lasted 4 or five minutes. The main man from Celebration Flipside (promoter) comes out on stage to explain what had happened.
without Anderson I would have not expected this to be too good. But I was wrong!

Recorded in Boston, M.A. February 5/6/7, 1970 by The Fleetwood Mobile. Remixed from original 8-track masters by Nick Watson, SRT Studios St. Ives England June, 1998 (with the help of Neil Slaven).
From the back cover: "By the turn of the seventies Fleetwood Mac were on a roll, having established themselves as headliners in the United States via repeated touring. In Feb '70 they tapes three consecutive nights at the Boston Tea Party with the view to rush-releasing a live album: the band played out of their skins and the LP would doubtless have been a killer. But within just weeks the mercurial Peter Green - their founder, leader & frontman - had sensationally announced his decision to quit, and the project was shelved. Some of the material eventually crept out on a couple of mid-80's albums, Jumping At Shadows and a double-LP Roots - The Original Fleetwood Mac Live in Concert. However, these were poorly-compiled affairs, with patchy sound quality, a problem which worsened steadily with subsequent reissue packages. Following the recent discovery of the original 8-track master tapes they have all now been remixed & remastered. A further nine previously unissued performances were also found, and the material has been extensively re-compiled to take into consideration the original set sequencings. As you'll hear, these were breathtaking gigs: this is the first Volume in a 3-CD set which will bring these devastating performances to life."

Welcome back to the ninth in a series of releases from the ER Archives, the collection of an active '70s taper and trader who stepped away from collecting, leaving his tapes dormant until now. ER's collection contains previously uncirculated shows as well as upgrades to circulating tapes, both audience and soundboard. He used high-end tape decks and good tape, so his copies of even well-known shows have proven to be improvements.

Installment 9 is an upgrade to another soundboard classic: the Music Hall in Houston, September 13, 1975. As explained in detail here (http://jungleland.dnsalias.com/torrents-details.php?id=36408), the ER Archive tapes of this show were copied from Ed Sciaky's reels in the late '70s. And like previous soundboard transfers in this series, to our ears it is a clear upgrade. Samples provided.

In preparing Houston for release, I found myself asking, "Why isn't this show more beloved?" It is the first extant soundboard recording after Atlanta 8/23/75 (ER Archive Vol. 8), and the three weeks that followed included the tour's first two-week break. As such, the band is both recharged and rehearsed. Comparing sets between ATL and HOU we see the addition of three songs from Born to Run--"Tenth Avenue Freeze-out," "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland"--putting more emphasis on the new album, though the show opens in the past with a lovely "Incident on 57th Street," as good as any we have from board sources on the '75 tour. Perhaps its the quality of ER's reels, but I had never previously noted that someone sings along with Springsteen for several lines in "Incident," starting with the lyric "With bruised arms and broken rhythm." But who?

The show ends as appealingly as it begins, as a raucous crowd is clearly lifting Bruce's spirits, leading to a rollicking version of "Carol" straight into "Lucille." The band is them summoned back for "Twist and Shout." In between those sublime bookends is the first known performance of Manfred Mann's "Pretty Flamingo," complete with the story of the girl walking by Bruce's porch that would be retold all the way through The River tour, when it was part of "I Wanna Merry You", "Jungleland" is strong; "Kitty" too.

This is one of the clearer '75 board tapes, and though it is wanting for more guitar in the mix at times, the rest of the band could not sound closer.

Once again carrying this tape over the finish line is our comrade MJK5510. Thanks to him for final polish and prepping.

And of course, thanks once again to the ER Archive for opening up the vault doors and sharing this recording with the fans. Feel free to let him know how you feel in the comments.

NOTES:

This PGH show was originally postponed due to the hurricane that hit Florida and they re-routed the tour to go back to Florida on the night this show was to happen to make up the show they cancelled in Ft Lauderdale the week before and that initally pissed me off royally but it all worked out since they had a lot more shows under their belt when they finally got to Pgh. The Pgh show had initially sold poorly anyway and they moved the show to a smaller theater so it made sense why they did this in hindsight. "Changes" also made its way into the set by then too...a good thing!!! I had a prime middle/right seat and the sound was pretty good as you can tell. With the RRHoF induction, and the new NA tour annoucement as "YES" featuring ARW, its a bummer they are not coming back to PGH but I can surely understand why, based on how the first show sold. I hope they put some more Rabin era songs in the show cause I'm going to see them in Akron, especially off of TALK...which I think is such an underrated album. With that said, this was a fairly balanced setlist overall. With the talk of new music as well, that is either going to force "replacments" or maybe a longer show, I hope its a LONGER SHOW!

Even though I love Steve Howe's playing, Alan White is basically a shell of himself (based on the RRHoF songs performance), I truely feel the ARW version of the "Yes" band is the only one that matters to me. I hope they can keep it going for a couple years at least. This show was not perfect, but overall, a pretty good performance.

They are clearly a band that hasn't played in long time together, Rabin's rust is very apparent this night at times but its hard to complain when he hasn't toured in nearly 20+ years. It will only get better if they can keep it rolling and it appears they are doing that with more dates announced. I doubt they will change anything up in Japan since its such a short set of dates and prior to anything new being recorded, but the new NA dates have potential for some new additions. I say at least, drop "The Fish" and add a "shortened" rearranged "Real Love" and "Hearts" plus a new song or two and its a KILLER set! I got my ticket for the Akron show as that is about the closest gig to me and it appears that is the better venue compared to the other show I was considering - Reading Pa (and the Akron ticket was much cheaper and a better overall seat!). Let's hope the gear captures a good one!!! I included the only related picture I took that night, I can't believe I didn't take any inside of the show!

BIG thanks to relayer35 for helping me master this. It's mostly his master --- I just made a minor low end EQ bump and then bumped the overall levels a tiny bit more.

There are no fades in the tracks. I suggest starting Disc 2 with Track 10 if burning to CDr.

Repost if you like, but please, keep info and file set intact.

No Artwork.

Crosby Loggins, Kenny's son, was the opener and for the first time ever, Kenny joined his son on Crosby's stage.
Crosby is the first artist besides Joe that is signed to Joe's record label.
I did not record the entire Crosby set, but when Kenny walked out and ran to my rig in time to catch the final 2 songs.

This recording took a lot of effort. DO NOT redistribute in any lossy format.

The Rolling Stones More Fast Numbers (Rebel Yell Factory)

Hi gang!

It's time to upload some stuff over here!
What we have today is a collection of alternates and outtakes recorded in Paris back in 1977.
Some of this stuff is quite common, some a bit rarer, but all are in the best quality available, afaik.
I've got these quite a while ago, back in the snail mail trading days from a japanese trader.
These boots are on the Rebel Yell Factory label. I've got two of these (both will be uploaded).
I've never seen any on any torrent site. And I have no infos on other releases on this label.
So if you know something, drop a line!
So just burn these babies, give em a spin, take a sip of Jack Daniel's, crank the amp way up and ENJOY!

Notes:

I had to do quite a few adjustments to this one in post, the volume was
all over the place with the quiet solo acoustic numbers and the full band.
It doesnt sound perfect, but its close enough. Please note, 2 gentlemen in
front of me decided to talk during the first few songs (very faintly) and I
finally "shushed!" them during "Trouble" and they immediately looked back
(not knowing where it came from) and shut up. This show was so hard to get
a ticket to (only 642 tickets selling out in a day!), why come and talk?
Ridiculous. The recording is pretty good to great at times. We were seated
during the majority of the show until "Tusk" when everyone decided it was
a good time to stand. During "On The Wrong Side" and "Second Hand News",
some women decided to stand up and dance in front of the left facing PA
and because of this, the audio is a little lopsided. I tried balancing
these songs in post, but they just sound a little flatter than the rest
of the show. Thankfully after "Second Hand News", they were allowed at the
front of the stage when everyone else stood. Minor complaints.

After 2019, I did not think I would see Lindsey again. Grateful he is back
on the road supporting some new material and playing for all of us again.
