Notes:
This is a an EX quality master cassette transfer of the soundboard of this show. The soundboard is in low circulation from what I understand. The transfer was done with a standalone CDR burner. This was split up on 2 CDR's ending with half of "Lightning Strikes" on 1 CD and beginning with the other half of that song on the second CD with a slight cut in between. The tracking was very sloppy with only 4 or 5 tracks on each disc. I ripped with EAC as two big WAV files, combined them and did some minimal editing to splice Lightning Strikes. There is a slight cut around 3:55 of that song. Then I split the big WAV file with CDWave and at the same time converted to FLAC. The whole thing is now a continuous 83:34 except for that very minor cut in Lightning Strikes. Spread over 2 CD's however you wish for personal use but please keep the FLAC set as is.

While this is not the original lineup, you wouldn't know it by the way Crespo and Dufay play. They are more than capable of stepping in the shoes of Whitford and Perry. The best part of the show is when some fan threw something on stage during "Lord of the Thighs" and Tyler calls him up on stage and, mocking him, asks him to sing. Overall it's a very nice listen, and this being a master transfer I'd recommend this even for a casual fan.

FFP file and shntool results included for easy checking. Regrettably I don't have any EAC logs for you, not that it'd show you much because the tracks were all different anyway.

BLACK SABBATH - "California Nightmare" [Gardener Remaster]

DATE : 02/23/71

VENUE : The Forum, Inglewood, USA

SETLIST :

Tune Up
Paranoid
NIB
War Pigs
Black Sabbath
Iron Man
Wicked World
Fairies Wear Boots
Unknown song [cuts]

LINE-UP :

Ozzy Osbourne - vocals
Tony Iommi - Guitar
Geezer Butler - bass
Bill Ward - drums

NOTES :

Every versions of this show I had heard so far (most certainly sourced from the "Inglewood 71"
bootleg CDR) shared the same flaws, which is to say they played ridiculously fast, were pretty
hissy, muddy and had numerous volume fluctuations. I tried to fix these flaws and here is the
result. This remaster deserves a VG rating, with only a thin layer of tape phasing.

For the technical details lovers, here's what I did :

 - As I said, the speed was too high, so I rectified the pitch 1,5 semitones lower, bringing
the total running time from 47 minutes to 52.

 - The left channel mainly contained the vocals and the drums, while the guitar and the bass
were mainly on the right. So I EQed the two channels separately in order to clean the hiss
and the saturated bass without altering the sound of each element.

 - Normalisation of the whole recording at 95%

 - Fixing of the volume fluctuations.

 - Removal of some cuts and new track splitting.

Now, performance wise, this is a very good performance from the "Paranoid" era, really powerful
and energetic. Sabbath had not reached the maestria they will gain during the "Master Of Reality"
tour, but I don't think they ever were as raw and wild as they were during the "Black Sabbath"
and "Paranoid" tours.

One very interesting thing about this particular recording is the 19 seconds track at the very
end which seems to be the beginning of a second encore after "Fairies Wear Boots". Unfortunately
the tape cuts during the leading riff, so we only get to hear Ozzy cheering the crowd over the
beginning of the song. If anyone guesses what this song is please tell me because I couldn't
recognise it. It definitely sounds familiar, but I couldn't name it. Maybe a Beatles song ?

Anyway, enjoy this great testimony of Black Sabbath in their prime.

Neil Young + POTR EU Summer Tour 2016

It's been around nine months now since Tom Therme, Steve Swatsworth and I put together our 6-CD tour compilation of Neil + POTR's  2015 Rebel Content tour of the US and Arthur Lancaster
put it up on Dime for us (Dime torrent #556278).

Here now is another 6-CD compilation that Tom and I worked during the three months after  Neil + POTR finished touring Europe in July. Different to the two comps put out by the Dutch Masters,
this one attempts to bring you all of the songs that Neil played on the 2016 EU tour, with individual tracks from different venues all merged together to as closely as possible sound as if
they are all from one continuous concert.

Almost every show in Europe was recorded and torrented on Dime, most in multiple recording versions. Thanks therefore go first of all to all the tapers for their efforts, without them this
compilation would simply not have been possible.

The original aim of this new comp was to cover every song sung by Neil at the 26 shows and to include tracks from each venue (though we did take a conscious decision to leave out tracks like
Volare and La Vie En Rose). But then some recordings were very much better than others so that idea was quickly abandoned in favour of recording quality. Tom collected every torrent and sifted
through them all to provide me with maybe the five or six versions of each song that he thought sounded the best. Some songs of course were only played a couple of times or so, and songs like
Tumbleweed or Love Is A Rose only once, making the choice of which one to use for a comp very easy indeed!

Choosing which songs to put where in the comp was very subjective, mostly my personal preference, but also swayed by the potential each recording had for merging the audience applause at each
end into the next track, which is in many ways the hardest part. There are 6 discs in total and we tried to make the track order pretty much follow the tour set lists, so solo stuff first,
then with POTR and all the electric stuff. The songs on the last disc are all encores.

Recorded by dear DIMENEW at app. 5 meters left side of stage center. Another excellent recording though not as good as the 12/22 tape. This recording has a lot more of useless chatter
and some more boomy bass. I was thinking about some equailization, but decided to give you this with warts and all other possible disturbances. Just because I think that it sounds fine
the way it is. You'll decide for yourself, but be warned as on today's x-mas cake'n'coffee my dear sister-in-law stated that your fellow Spacebandit can't hear anything at all...hmm,
maybe only that what I do not want to listen to?

---
Second (or better first) of the CURE's X-Mas shows at Hammersmith Odeon. I've decided to put up the gorgeous sounding 12/22 show for x-mas eve before, in contrast to my usual politics of
posting by date. Seems like a good decision and I hope you all out there enjoyed the show. My own history about THE CURE is short. I really loved the "Disintegration" album way back those
years. Not too many of those are played here except for the "hit" songs, but I missed the title track as well. But, huh, I'm not that expert on THE CURE. So I better keep my mouth shut
and invite you into another 40+ songs..SB.

Our taper was seated at the side of the stage in the VIP section, which is why at the beginning of the show someone mentions being "up on stage," and the audio is a combination of stage monitors and house sound.  He does not recall how he wound up there with a general admission ticket (scan included here).  But, he happened to sit next to Shannon Hoon's parents at the taping of Saturday Night Live about a month earlier, and maybe that's got something to do with it?

This recording contains an additional song compared to the bootleg CD versions that circulate, which end with Candy Says.  The tape flip before No Rain has been patched with audio from one of those bootlegs.

Notes:
A very unique Who show which starts as strong as the previous night's show. Things took a bad turn though when Pete sliced open his palm on his guitar strings while doing windmills at the end of Who Are You. He left the stage at the end of the song bleeding profusely and headed to the backstage area where 'a good ice-hockey man' sewed up his hand. 'I didn't feel a thing' no doubt due to the self medication he'd been working on. Meanwhile on stage, Roger initially said they'd take a break but instead stayed onstage to prove how lost they would be without Pete. After a jam which featured 2 drum solos and Roger on Pete's guitar (we're use to seeing Roger play guitar now, but in 1979 it just wasn't done!) Roger decided to lead the audience in a My Generation sing-along. He followed this doing the same with Magic Bus until Pete came back onstage to rejoin the action part way through. The improvisations during end of the main set and the encores reached a new extreme with Roger pulling in 'Please Don't Touch' and taking a stab at 'Sweets For My Sweet' before Pete would take over for a great version of 'Pretty Vacant' leading into 'Cat's in the Cupboard' and later in the encore the second appearance of 'Dance It Away'. This was the longest Who show until the 1989 tour.

The Rolling Stones - Woodstock Rehearsals 1978_AcidProject 063
soundboard from low gen. tape

Hi Stones gang

Here is another one i was preparing to do for years.I did phase, pitch & level correction. In the end i did new EQ.
Also, i have edited few tracks by deleting long silence and some tuning, it was boring to me to listen to that.
I have put most of the instrumentals on disc 4, i liked it better like that.
I used the torrent shared at The Traders Den by julsay, but some tracks were missing. Big thanks to Igemo 75 who has send me the missing tracks, sourced from VGP-130 bootleg.
There are some analog noises, especially on some tracks on disc 3, most probably caused by some bad guitar cable or something similar. I could not do much about it, so i left it as it is (sometimes shit like this happens on rehearsals, even on gigs)
Enjoy !

Dedicated to Kevin Gilbert.

Many thanks to JohnnyVirgil for sharing and to Gold Hawk for authoring!

Billed as "Pete Townshend and Friends".  Pete Townshend on Guitar & Vocals, Tracy Langram on Guitar &
Vocals, Peter Hope-Evans on Harmonica & Jew's Harp, Jon Carin on Keyboards & Vocals, Chucho Merchan on
Bass and Jodi Linscott on Percussion.

Yasgur's farm is the site of the original 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, NY.  The show was broadcast
live via the Internet by Infoseek.com.

I Am Animal & The Acid Queen sung by Pete Townshend and Tracy Langram (a dance captain and assistant
choreographer for some of the Tommy plays. Pete heard her sing, and brought her along on this mini
3-show tour); Heart To Hang Onto sung by Pete, Tracy Langram and Jon Carin; Going Up The Country and
Eyesight To The Blind featured Taj Mahal. See Me Feel Me was sung with a local 26-piece gospel
choir (The Soul Saving Station).

Very good, almost excellent video and audio quality.  This DVD is an upgrade over a previous version I
authored.

Notes: This show has near perfection sound quality. There is some crowd noise during some tunes,
but thats what you get for going stealth with 50,000 people all around. Seriously the sound is
awesome.

Known flaws:
Overture has variable sound due to setting of levels and getting equipment rolling.
Magic bus is missing the first couple of seconds due to technical difficulties
The tape flips are quick following Eminance Front and Rough Boys
Missing Encores: Hey Joe, Dig, Summertime Blues due to user error. Lesson learned- Dont burn
that last fatty before the encores as you may forget to take the deck off pause <LOL>
Enjoy!!!!

INFO ON CD`s 2 & 3:
HEAR VERONA AND LIVE
By Clinton Heylin
(source: "Rolling Telegraph Supplement" #18, pp. 25-26)

The award for Most Interesting Tape Of The Month goes to a ninety minute 'rehearsal' tape from 1984 which an English collector has recently turned up. The tape apparently originates from two days spent rehearsing in Verona, Italy prior to the 1984 European Tour [May 27-28th], and the tape itself appears to be 45 minutes of two separate sessions – I would suspect the first is from the 27th as there is much more jamming and working on new material, and that the second part is from the afternoon of the 28th as Dylan tries to whip the band into shape. The recording quality is spot-on. It probably even has the edge on the previous '84 Tour Rehearsals
The instrumentals are not as boring as may at first sight appear as Dylan plays some nice harmonica on them, and the songs do have some kind of structure, they are not just aimless jams. The source for the tape credits Carlos Santana as on guitar on this side, though I'm not necessarily convinced. 'To Each His Own' is the old crooner's classic written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingstone. However the most interesting songs are the two original Dylan compositions heard here for the first time: 'Dirty Lies' and 'Almost Done'. I’d like to convince myself that 'Almost Done' is in fact 'Angel Of Rain', the other new Dylan song (aside from 'Enough Is Enough' and 'Dirty Lies') to be mentioned at the Verona press conference. It has the right tune for a song called 'Angel Of Rain', though no self-evident lyrical similarities. In fact we have heard a brief snippet of 'Almost Done' before. It is the fragment of a song on the Beverly Theatre tape which I christened 'The Dawn Is Gonna Shine' (song number 24 in 'Master Of The Tracks'). Dylan is still clearly working on the song, though the melody seems pretty well worked-out. The second side of the tape is much more a final run-through of the live set. Indeed the eleven songs performed consist of the entire first set at the opening show plus band versions of 'To Ramona' and 'Girl From The North Country', two songs only performed acoustically on the tour.

The Rolling Stones BBC Radio Sessions 1963-65

Between September/October of 1963 and August of 1965, the Rolling Stones recorded numerous radio sessions for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).  Most of these sessions were recorded off the air at the time, and the BBC preserved some recordings themselves.  There have been numerous bootleg releases of this material over the years.  For an overview, see Chris M.'s great site:  http://www.rollingstonesnet.com/BBCStones.htm.  As Chris notes, all available songs were compiled by Invasion Unlimited on their "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" set.

I do not like the sound of the Invasion Unlimited release.  Every mono track, which means 47 out of 51, has been electronically reprocessed for fake stereo, and IU has smothered any hiss with heavy noise reduction.

This set is my remastering of the same songs, plus two short interviews omitted on "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb," without fake stereo or extreme noise reduction.  This is not a remaster of "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb."

Contrary to popular belief, "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" was not made from tapes.  It was mostly made from three bootlegs, all of which I have also used extensively:  1) The Swingin' Pig's "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.  Released legally in 1988 but later made illegal after the laws were changed, this CD is made entirely from 1985 BBC rebroadcasts.  Sound quality is excellent.  Some tracks were taken from BBC transcription discs (records) and had slight surface noise, which I have attempted to remove.  Mono tracks were also converted to true mono; on the CD the left and right channels were slightly different.  2) "Don't Lie to Me," a German bootleg LP released in 1985, made entirely of old tapes recorded off the air at the time.  3) "Crackin' Up," probably a German bootleg LP, released in 1986 and also made entirely of old tapes recorded off the air at the time.  I also used a few other sources as noted below.  Some of the records don't run at the correct pitch but I'm not enough of an expert to get them exactly right.  Where things sounded wrong, I limited pitch changes to a maximum of + or -3%.  For the LP/EP sources, I did everything I could to improve the sound (removing hiss, hum, re-EQ'ing) without harming the music.  I didn't have access to VGP's "The Lost Treasure," which might have better sources for its material.

CDs were ripped using Exact Audio Copy and/or CueTools to ensure accuracy.  LPs were transferred using a Music Hall turntable, Ortofon cartridge, Adcom preamp, and Cakewalk UA-1G A/D converter.  LP noise was removed with ClickRepair; all other editing and enhancements were performed using Adobe Audition.  Tracks were split using CD Wave, and tagged and converted to FLAC with foobar2000.

For several sessions, there are differences of opinion on line as to when the sessions were recorded or the song order.  See http://rocksoff.org/radio.htm and http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/works1.htm.  "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" has similar information but not exactly, so my song order is not quite the same either.  All tracks here are ordered by recording date not broadcast date; "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" uses them interchangeably.

CD1:

Sep. 23 or Oct. 5, 1963; broadcast Oct. 26
1.01. Come On
1.02. Memphis, Tennessee
1.03. Roll Over Beethoven
All songs from "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.

Feb. 3, 1964; broadcast Feb. 8
1.04. Don't Lie to Me
1.05. You Better Move On
1.06. I Wanna Be Your Man
1.07. Mona (I Need You Baby)
1.08. Walking the Dog
1.09. Bye Bye Johnny
All songs from "Don't Lie to Me" LP.

March 8, 1964 (broadcast date, recorded Feb. 8-March 7 on UK tour)
1.10. Roll Over Beethoven from "Don't Lie to Me" LP.
1.11. Beautiful Delilah from "I Can't Judge the Music by Looking at the Cover" EP.  EP lists the wrong date; thanks to Chris M. for listing the correct date.

March 18, 1964, or October 8, 1964; major discrepancy on date and source here
1.12. Ain't That Loving You Baby
From "How Britain Got the Blues," remastered by Remasters Workshop.  This version is probably copied from "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb," which probably got it from the "Rape of the Vaults" LP, which I don't have.

March 19, 1964; broadcast May 9
1.13. Route 66 (live)
1.14. Cops and Robbers (live)
1.15. You Better Move On (live)
1.16. Mona (I Need You Baby) (live)
All songs from "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.  These songs are recorded in stereo but there were no stereo radios in 1964, so the BBC broadcast one channel over the radio and the other over TV.

April 10, 1964
1.17. Hi-Heel Sneakers (live)
1.18. Little By Little (live)
1.19. I Just Want To Make Love To You (live)
1.20. I'm Moving On (live)
All songs from "Got Live if You Want It" bootleg from trade CDR.  This was apparently made by VGP but no company is listed; perhaps they were nervous about releasing official material (not included here) and using official artwork.  Major improvement over "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" source.  I have toned down VGP's aggressive mastering so these songs better match the others.

April 13, 1964; broadcast April 18
1.21. I Just Want to Make Love to You
1.22. Walking the Dog
1.23. Not Fade Away
1.24. Beautiful Delilah
1.25. Hi-Heel Sneakers
1.26. Carol
Beautiful Delilah is from "Don't Lie to Me" LP.  Not Fade Away is from "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD. Remaining four are from "Crackin' Up" LP, slowed down 3%.  There is overlap between the LPs here; "Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb" chose to go with "Don't Lie to Me" wherever possible and I chose "Crackin' Up" wherever possible.  Each has its advantages.

CD2:

May 25, 1964; broadcast June 6
2.01. Down In The Bottom
2.02. You Can Make It If You Try
2.03. Route 66
2.04. Confessin' The Blues
2.05. Down The Road Apiece
All songs from "Don't Lie to Me" LP.

July 17, 1964
2.06. It's All Over Now (live)
2.07. If You Need Me (live)
2.08. Confessin' the Blues (live)
2.09. Carol (live)
2.10. Mona (I Need You Baby) (live)
All songs from "Crackin' Up" LP.

July 17, 1964 (studio); broadcast July 23
2.11. Around and Around
2.12. If You Need Me
2.13. I Can't Be Satisfied
2.14. Crackin' Up
All songs from "Crackin' Up" LP.

Oct. 8, 1964; broadcast Oct. 31
2.15. 2120 South Michigan Avenue
From "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.

March 1, 1965; broadcast March 6
2.16. Everybody Needs Somebody to Love
2.17. Down the Road Apiece
2.18. The Last Time
2.19. Interview with Mick Jagger & Brian Jones
All songs from "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.

Aug. 20, 1965; broadcast Aug. 30 and Sep. 18
2.20. Mercy, Mercy
2.21. Oh Baby (We Got a Good Thing Going)
2.22. Interview with Mick Jagger
2.23. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
2.24. The Spider and the Fly
2.25. Interview with Mick Jagger
2.26. Cry to Me
2.27. Fanny Mae
All songs from "Get Satisfaction... If You Want!" CD.
