Notes from Shroomy:
1988 was the apex for glam metal as the breakthrough of Seattle “grunge” music was just around the corner. Faster Pussycat had just released their debut album and they were riding a wave of popularity due to the wide acceptance at that time for good quality song based LA glam metal. Kind of like a very low rent version of The Black Crowes meets Ratt, with instantly memorable choruses with a surprisingly high level of musicianship (considering the deliberate attempt they make to portray themselves as swaggering, drunken cock rock road warriors). I was attracted to them instantly having grown up on Rolling Stones, Faces, and the like, so I went out to their gig with my brand new Sony hand held tape recorded with the built in stereo mics (a new feature to hand helds at the time, sorry I don’t remember the model number), and a cheap instamatic camera just in case (we didn’t have camera phones back then). The gig was great, the band were riding high that night and were excited to be there and wanted to showcase some new songs, and on top of that they did some impressive covers of Hot Legs, Travelin’ Band, and Honky Tonk Women. Finally after all these years I sat down to transfer and remaster this show, adding some home-made artwork and including those few photos I took from my vantage point close to the stage.
