After the source mentioned above was shared from the Master I pulled my 1st generation copy of this show out because I knew I got it from an old taper friend about 2 weeks after the show took place and it wasn't the same taper as the other source.


So here you have a second source that was taped VERY close to the stage, instruments are clean, have excellent separation and up front with no echo or distance to the sound at all.  In addition there is no audience noise, no screams, no talking and only distant clapping between songs.  It sounds like he isolated himself somehow from the audience around him.


The version of Southern Man on this source is 3:33 long and only missing the first version starting with Coe singing the second verse.  
In addition, Country Home is complete on this version.


Known flaws on this source are a splice during Sugar Mountain (missing about 30 seconds) and the first 20 seconds missing from Powderfinger.
Small microphone bump during Comes A Time.


So here's were I've given you the choice of burning the original they way it is with very slight fade ins and outs where the cuts are OR you can
choose to insert the two songs with patches from the Toneye source shared earlier that I have put in the "Extras" folder.  I've indexed it so you can flawlessly insert the patched songs.


I hope Toneye doesn't mind me using his source to patch my source, if so my apologies.


For those that have to have it all, you could burn this original, burn this with the patches, burn the Toneye original and use my source to patch the Toneye source, burn that and have a whopping 4 versions of this show:-)

Quality:
One of my better recordings I think. Ex- for an audience recording of its time, comparing to some others I've heard from this tour... You be the judge! Bright and clear and full frontal sonic assault, just as it was that night! Crank it up! Full dynamics - be warned of Neil's shrieking guitar work that can rip your face off (even at this distance!)...

Comments:
I think this one turned out amazingly good, especially considering how far back I was! I knew Neil's show was going to be a loud one on this tour, and that there wasn't going to be any "quiet" songs! I could have possibly moved to a seat in the lower level to be a bit closer, but it was a pretty full arena that night, and I probably would have had to be asked to move. The section I was in was not deserted, but had plenty of room for a wandering fan unhappy with his assigned seat. I picked a chair that was exactly parallel with the mid-line of the building, perfectly centered in the middle of the P.A. I wasn't exactly back row at the top, but probably about 2/3 up the section. The closest people were maybe 10 seats away in any direction, so there isn't very much close proximity audience noise.

I remember thinking how odd the prop Fender Giant amps looked from this distance - almost normal! Then these little ants that were the band came out on stage, and made this behemoth sound come through the P.A. system! Amazing soundman they must have, and a great audio system as well. I went to look at the soundboard area and remember seeing the bank of Tascam DA-88's recording 24 tracks of digital (3 units linked up) - I don't think any of the Vancouver show made it onto Arc / Weld, and I think this was a great show, so I wonder if maybe one of their tapes failed or something on this night? Hmmm......

So, yeah, even at this distance, I still remember this as being one of the loudest shows I've ever been to - especially in The Pacific Coliseum. I kind of felt sorry for the people who were right up close to the speakers! I've read that Neil got hearing damage from mixing the recordings they had for the live album (has nothing to do with playing the damned shows that loud, does it? nooo... haha) and in doing the "mastering" work that I've done for my little release here, I think I might have done some not-so-good things to my hearing, too (has absolutely nothing to do with seeing several hundred concerts through life, nooo....) but I can assure you that this show sounds really good cranked up loud! What?

I like this recording a lot. I read something that Jimmy Page said about recording techniques: "...distance creates depth..." and I applied this expression to recording this show. You can hear that the stage is deep and straight in front of me, and you can distinctly hear the left and right sides of the entire coliseum filling up with this rolling wall of sound that washes over the audience and rattles the rafters of the building and crashes down all at once onto my microphone. There is very little "backbeat" echo because of this effect of the reverb and P.A. sound reaching me almost at the same time. I don't think these seats would have worked so well for other (quieter) shows, but this one was well loud enough to carry up to where I was. The tones from the guitars that seem to ring out from different places in the hall are well preserved on this recording. It's amazing that it just comes from that itty-bitty Sony mic that comes standard with the Sony WM D3 walkman. I'd have to put this one in my personal top ten recordings list... somewhere!

It sure was a blast to watch Neil pretty much give birth to "grunge music" right in front of my eyes! haha. More or less. Awesome to see a band rock it out so hard with such a sense of urgency to it. It's this sense of urgency especially in some of Neil's vocals that (I think) might make this one of the better shows of the tour (that I've heard). I'm no expert, but for how many times he's played Vancouver I think he must like it there, and he probably tries harder to put on a good performance here. With that in mind, have a listen to my newly released master recording and hear this great show yourself!

Other than a few tape-to-tape EQ'd to death copies that I made for a few friends around '92 - '93 I've never really  gotten this one out there before now. Brand new digitization march 2011 @ 24 / 96 hi-res, EQ'd to enhance bass, stereo field also enhanced slightly, downsampled and dithered to CD ready FLAC files for your convenience. Sorry about the poorly timed tape flip in "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World" - I was watching the tape reel wind down trying to get the end of "Love And Only Love" complete, waiting for the break to flip tapes. That break never came exactly as planned. The blank tape playback here represents approximately how much of the whole show is missing from tap flips. There's another gap between "Love To Burn" and "Cinnamon Girl" just missing a few seconds of crowd noise...

I did tape Sonic Youth as well. I know that their fans will want that posted as well. I have no idea what most of the songs are called, so it's hard to track their set. If you'd like to help with some naming schemes for their part, drop a line and we'll hook something up...

Please don't Re-Re-ReMaster this version of this show. The files have already been processed once, as well as them being "only" CD quality files. I will most likely release a full hi-res master clone version of this show in the future to please both the 24/96 fans and the Re-Re-Remasterbastardizers out there! hehe. Please share these lossless files freely - don't buy don't sell - but only share them as their original full lossless fileset. Feel free to include any new files (like art or a new text file or something) with the originals if you re-post elsewhere, but always keep the full original fileset (including this info file) fully intact! Don't change or delete any original files.

Please don't encrap this lossless fileset to eMPty3 format unless it is only for personal use. Better yet - don't pervert the files to eMPty3 at all! haha. Do not distribute to anyone as lossy files. Friends don't let friends listen lossy. Destroy used eMPty3 files when done with them. Keep your FLAC files handy for when you get a better audio system or for when you get the results of that much-needed hearing test!

Notes: Amazing show and my first time seeing Neil in any form since Bridge in 2001.  I did a lot of work lowering the crowd noise between songs, but overall I think the recording came out pretty good.

The crowd around me was mostly respectful, although there are a few woos behind me off and on.  There were also some idiots who couldn’t figure out where there seats were and an usher sat in the empty seat beside me after Mellow My Mind and asked about 5 people to hand down their ticket stubs.  He was relatively quiet, but you can hear some faint talking.

Here's one of the better early '76 recordings which I haven't seen
torrented recently. Although I received it in the 90's labeled as a DAT
copy from the master, I'm not sure about that. There may be an analog
generation in there somewhere.  You'll notice the sound quality change
between Cortez and Cinnamon Girl like two seperate tapes were used. I
also had to clean up some diginoise during about 5 seconds of The Losing
End using an unspecified generation CDR of the same recording. The patch
sounds no worse than any of the other little sound flucuations in the
recording. In spite of all of that, this is the best copy of this show
that I've heard and I think you will like it. Like most of the '76
shows, there's great guitar work by Neil, especially near the end of
Southern Man.

My all-time Rock N Roll hero does a show on the beach with Willie's boys and it was SPECIAL beyond measure! We got to Santa Barbara early to grab some lunch, drove up a down Milpas a couple time when I spy this quaint Mexican restaurant and we found parking close. Not 10 minutes after we get tin line to order food when a black limo van pulls up across the street and in walks Neil and the band. I was literally eating lunch 10 feet from my hero! I got a chance to say hello and tell him about my first time seeing him in 1976, and how his music saved my life more than once. He smiled broadly, said thanks and shook my hand warmly. I was starstruck like a 13 year old kid.

The show was absolutely amazing to say the least, Promise of the Real are dedicated, suprememly talented musicians and everyone could tell they were thrilled to be playing with a legend like Neil Young. Neil was clearly inspired by and playing off and into the bands energy too. We had GA pit tickets and got there early to scope a centralized, sonically pure location. Now remember I was down there in the middle of it and there are a few woots and random talkers and laughers here and there, but doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the music. No editing done other than to hard limit the nearby clappers and a few close woots. It's raw and pure so crank it up. I got the entire 14+ minute version of F*!#in' Up on video and I'll post that on my YouTube page soon. I'm half tempted to cruise to Vegas tomorrow to see them again and blow off work on Monday.

Neil Young + POTR EU Summer Tour 2016

It's been around nine months now since Tom Therme, Steve Swatsworth and I put together our 6-CD tour compilation of Neil + POTR's  2015 Rebel Content tour of the US and Arthur Lancaster
put it up on Dime for us (Dime torrent #556278).

Here now is another 6-CD compilation that Tom and I worked during the three months after  Neil + POTR finished touring Europe in July. Different to the two comps put out by the Dutch Masters,
this one attempts to bring you all of the songs that Neil played on the 2016 EU tour, with individual tracks from different venues all merged together to as closely as possible sound as if
they are all from one continuous concert.

Almost every show in Europe was recorded and torrented on Dime, most in multiple recording versions. Thanks therefore go first of all to all the tapers for their efforts, without them this
compilation would simply not have been possible.

The original aim of this new comp was to cover every song sung by Neil at the 26 shows and to include tracks from each venue (though we did take a conscious decision to leave out tracks like
Volare and La Vie En Rose). But then some recordings were very much better than others so that idea was quickly abandoned in favour of recording quality. Tom collected every torrent and sifted
through them all to provide me with maybe the five or six versions of each song that he thought sounded the best. Some songs of course were only played a couple of times or so, and songs like
Tumbleweed or Love Is A Rose only once, making the choice of which one to use for a comp very easy indeed!

Choosing which songs to put where in the comp was very subjective, mostly my personal preference, but also swayed by the potential each recording had for merging the audience applause at each
end into the next track, which is in many ways the hardest part. There are 6 discs in total and we tried to make the track order pretty much follow the tour set lists, so solo stuff first,
then with POTR and all the electric stuff. The songs on the last disc are all encores.

I don't usually source shows from bootlegs, but this is an
exception. I just got this from a UK Eric Clapton collector who
follows the Japanese bootleg releases. This recording of the first
show of 1976 Japanese Tour is from a previously uncirculated
master and contains a previously uncirculated second encore of
Cortez The Killer. This is a recent release from the apparently
exclusive Tarantura label and is supposed to be direct from the
original cassette masters.

The sound is stellar.  Even better I think than the excellent
version previously circulated on Dime by the always generous edtyre.

This show came to me as a work in progress and the files were not completely processed because apparently this was another taper's project that was never fully completed.
I had to track out the raw WAV file for the Bruce Springsteen set in Audacity and also edit a tape flip at the end of the set and splice in the two encores, which had been tracked on to the end of the CSNY raw WAV file and did not appear to belong there. Two songs were missing in the Bruce Springsteen set and I couldn't locate them on any of the untracked raw WAV files that were supplied to me.
Fortunately I was able to obtain them from the same source a day later. They had inadvertently been left off the first batch sent to me, so those two tracks were level matched, and spliced into the Springsteen set with splices repaired. Each set is listed individually in separate folders, but the show will play sequentially in order from start to finish. All sound files have been down sampled to 16 bit / 44.1kHz in Audacity, and converted to FLAC with tags added via xACT 2.51. Thanks to all involved for the capture of this first ever Bridge benefit show, and thanks as well to 'Rocksuitcase' from Taperssection.com for making his uncompleted files available for me to add the finishing touches and complete this amazing show. The sound on the Bruce Springsteen set is a bit 'hollow', possibly as a result of weak internal batteries in the Nakamichi microphone bodies, but this is just a guess. Front-cover artwork added to FLAC tags.

Sound qualty is good, but the set was very quiet, so the volume is boosted overall.

The set is tracked to include "extras" at the end of a song, not the beginning of the next one,
so you can hit "forward" when the applause starts, to get to the start of the next song if you want.
Note that doing this might mean missing the sound of Neil changing harmonicas,
unplugging/plugging in guitars, or making the (very) occasional comment.

I found this in my basement, looking for some stuff to save on cd's and I thought may be someone would
like to listen to this one.
The set list is usual but the show is a little bit longer than others.
As long as i remember, 1st gen tapes were lended by my old friend XP and i made equalized copies.
Seems the show is recorded near to the speakers and the sound is very correct after the first song.
The concert features an extended like an inca version.

 I recieved this in trade on a CD, as 17 tracks.
roll another number and too far gone were one
track, and this note and the needle were also
one track, so I've made a track for each song,
since there was a stoppage of play between them.
 I didn't listen to this much before, because
it didn't sound that good. Apparently that was
because it needed DC offset, and level balancing.
so I applied DC offset and balanced the levels
out, now it sounds considerably better and
pretty enjoyable. I don't know if this is the
full show but the songs here are all there.

this recording. he didn't record it, thanks to
whoever did. they did a nice job, not much crowd
and a decent recorder and mikes, Neil comes through
clearly throughout the show. I'm pretty sure he did
play rockin' ITFW twice in the show. He did that in
