Molly Hatchet 1989-06-09 Fort Lauderdale FL (Floridian) (T-fix) (1st gen sbd)

The raw source recording for this release is from Chuck Dagen (Floridian).  He asked me to work on it and fix any problems that I found.  He provided it to me as 2 flac files.

flac > 16 bit, 44.1 kHz WAV >
Audacity > CD Wave Editor 16 bit 44.1 kHz > FLAC

I converted to wav, equalized, balanced, and optimized the volume of the recording.  I fixed a few volume fluctuations.   I removed the gaps and rejoined the recording.  Then I split the recording into song tracks.   I did the editing, mastering (tweaking) for this version of this release.  Screen caps of Audacity before (raw) and after (final) are included.

Former UFO guitarist Paul Chapman was the newly hired replacement for Duane Rolland(RIP), who had recently passed away.
Riff West(RIP) had prior commitments, and Steve was a two-show temporary replacement.

This gig was a benefit concert for three recently slain Pittsburgh police officers. The policemen were killed in the line of duty, as the result of a single shooting event. During a ceremony before the gig, Gator Country donated a $1000 check to a fund that was established for the surviving families. There were troopers and police officers and their families all over the place, and their local supporters made up a large part of the audience.

Given this context, it might not have been a good idea to perform "Bounty Hunter" on this night. At least not with the original lyrics, which occur right before the guitar solos. So about one minute into the first song, which turned out to be the aforementioned tune, I began to wonder if the band had even thought about this. And "that verse" is coming up...at least supposed to be coming up.

So I'm filming on the stage right beside the band, and I start looking for signs of mutual concern. I am looking at the band members, looking at the tour manager, and I am seeing no indication of panic. "Whew", I think, "They must have talked about this in advance", I tell myself. Then, the time arrives, and out Jimmy roars... "DID YOU KNOW FIVE-HUNDRED DOLLARS WILL GET YOUR HEAD BLOWED OFF...IT WILL!! HA HA HA!".

OMFG!!!! No!!!!!!!!!!

After it quickly sunk in what had just taken place, I noticed that I wasn't the only one onstage profusely sweating....and not from the heat! Fortunately, all of the worst-case scenarios that brewed in our heads the next few minutes never actually materialized, and it turned out to be a really good show.

This show is the first of three concerts with this line-up that I was lucky enough to record. It is also the final one to be released, as I have uploaded the other two previously. One of them is still active as of today's date.
If I'm not mistaken, this was the longest of the three shows, clocking in at over 2 hours in length. There is a very special "vibe" in the room on this night, for multiple reasons. One has to do with the bands relationship with the owner of the club, John("John Boy"). Another reason is the return to the road of Molly Hatchet, with it's beloved front man, and one of the arguably most talented line-ups ever(although unoriginal). Yet another reason that there is such a killer vibe on this night has to do with a special guest who is present on this evening. I won't reveal who that is, in order to preserve the listening experience for those who download this show. But believe me, he gets a special introduction.

I was preparing this show to be uploaded earlier in the week and it dawned on me that this show has special meaning, for myself and for others, on this particular day(Sunday June 17, 2012). Today is Father's Day, and this show was recorded on my Dad's Birthday, eight years after his passing. But there is a much more poignant moment, relative to Father's Day, that occurs during this show. It's very moving - and it leaves me with goosebumps listening to it now. I really believe that, if those who download this listen to it today, there will be a lot of grown men reaching for the tissue box before they are through. It has to do with something that DJB says, and one can hear the love and affection in his voice. Again, I won't spoil the moment by commenting further.

This recording was made with a better mic than the other two, and is overall a bit better quality, IMHO. But The first two songs are a bit rough, due to a packed house full of die-hard Hatchet fanatics. Check  the samples for more information. Also, I had to pee during Bobby's guitar solo. I had no expectations of a two hour show that night! After "Dreams", I thought the end was near, but they just kept going and going. I finally had to walk out the front door, took about five steps, and relieved myself in the grass in the side lot. All caught on the tape. I did, however, fade in and out before and after the "pee" while editing, and created a separate track for that episode. Therefore, one can leave the "pee track" in, if they so desire, or one can remove it, and the guitar solo will fade out and then back in during the playback.

So there it is, my final offering of Molly Hatchet with Danny Joe Brown. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I do!
