Notes:
Here we have a totally unheard, uncirculated soundboard recording, capturing the Van Halen concert in Biloxi during their Diver Down tour (Hide Your Sheep tour) in 1982. Not even an audience recording of this show has circulated previously. Due to being so early in the tour, this is one of very few recordings that documents this earlier setlist arrangement, which would soon be significantly reorganized sometime between July 27th and 30th.

The true treasure of this recording, making it likely the most special of any of these 1982 live tapes, is the super rare appearance of Keep Playin' That Rock N Roll, an Edgar Winter song that Van Halen played during their early local gigging days prior to their debut album. The song is played where Bottoms Up would usually be slotted in the setlist, with Bottoms Up being pushed down to the first encore where The Full Bug would usually be slotted in the early setlist arrangement. In effect, The Full Bug was not played on this night in Biloxi. It's been known that Van Halen would throw curveball songs into their setlists on very rare occasion, however this song has not previously been known to be one of them.

There are only three other dates confirmed to have had VH perform Keep Playin' That Rock N Roll, all preceding their debut album. One is from the Pasadena Hilton on June 13th 1975, and is an excellent soundboard recording of the band's early years. The next is a really short version from Gazzarri's in West Hollywood on an unconfirmed 1975 date, and the other is from the Eros and Bogart's bar in San Bernardino on September 18th 1976, but the latter is simply unlistenable (and I don't say that easily about bootleg recordings).
While the song had never been known to have been played after the release of their first album, an attendee who was at the August 30th 1981 Fair Warning show in Nashville claims they opened the show with Keep Playin' That Rock N Roll instead of On Fire. While that can't be totally confirmed without finding a recording of that concert, it's not an impossible claim, seeing as this Biloxi 1982 tape now confirms this song in particular was in VH's arsenal of potential curveball rarities.

This Biloxi recording starts a bit late, a little over a minute into Romeo Delight, but over half of the song was still captured. The first side of the 90 minute master tape runs only about 35 seconds into Somebody Get Me A Doctor, and while no songs are missing in between, it seems it took a while to realize to flip the tape because the second side doesn't start again until about a minute into Cathedral. Luckily, this recording captures the remainder of concert.

Huge thanks to those who significantly helped with the absurd pricetag that was required to liberate this VH collection, most of which would've been impossible to save otherwise.

Enjoy the music and be grateful we are able hear these special recordings. If you have uncirculated tapes, please consider sharing them before they end up forever lost to time.

The Rolling Stones 1978-06-12 Fox Theatre Atlanta, GA(1978 American Tour series Vol 3)

THE ROLLING STONES

10th June - 26th July 1978

North American Tour.

In this series we concentrate on audience recordings, leaving out the rehearsals, and of course the official recordings. KBFH-recordings will only be used for merges or matrix recordings.

Thanks to the people who recorded and shared these shows and also to my accomplices nzb and BlueTurns2Grey who gave me the benefit of their advice and support.

BlueTurns2Grey will be posting his video reworks simultaneously.

Line-up: MJ (voc, gtr, p)/KR (gtr, voc)/RW (gtr, pedal steel)/BW (bass)/CW (dr)/STU (p)/Ian McLagan (p, org, bvoc)

Volume 03

12th June 1978

(ATLANTA)

12th June 1978 : Atlanta, Georgia, Fox Theatre
Note: The Stones were billed as The Cockroaches

For the Atlanta show, I found two sources, unfortunately of poor quality.

Source #1 first appeared on Risk Disk's 'Let It Fox', later on 'Live In Atlanta '78' (no label). Additionally ‘The Cockroaches Show’ is a personal compilation I made from it a long time ago.

Source #2 can be found on ‘Miss You Boyz’ (no label) and in nzb’s version.,

I used the Risk Disk version which is better, although from ‘Shattered’ onwards the quality decrease. Note that some banters are edited.,

I upgraded the phase, added slightly more treble and amplified and de-clicked the recording., For the last four tracks I rebalanced the channels and upgraded the azimuth.

The short video extract (cf. the bonus) revealed the need to accelerate the audio recording by +2,5 %.

01 - Let It Rock

02 - All Down The Line

03 - Honky Tonk Women

04 - Star Star

05 - Lies

06 - Miss You

07 - When The Whip Comes Down

08 - Beast Of Burden

09 - Just My Imagination

I deleted 4 defaults

10 - Respectable

11 - Far Away Eyes

I equilibrated the sound intensity and I deleted a 3 second repetition in the final banter

12 - Love In Vain

13 - Shattered

14 - Tumbling Dice

15 - Happy

16 - Brown Sugar

I deleted a digital fault at 2’

17 - Jumpin' Jack Flash

I deleted a digital fault at 4’12

Bonus :

18 - Star Star (snippet) coming from a US TV report : ‘Action News’ (WSB Channel 2 Atlanta)

it’s a merge between the video source (left channel) and the audio source (right channel) except for the first 8 and the last 20 seconds, which come solely from the audio.

As usual all the infos are coming from Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database: http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/zent.htm

10th June 1978

(LAKELAND)

10th June 1978: Lakeland, Florida, Civic Center
Note: The Stones were billed as The Great Southeast Stoned-Out Wrestling Champions.

For this first show, three sources circulate:

Source #1 was found first on ‘Fake Band On Lakeland’ (Risk Disk 006) and later in slightly upgraded form on ‘Lakeland’72 (no label), ‘No Lisk In Lakeland’ (ExCD 036) and ‘2nd Generation’ (no label).

Source #2 corresponds to “We Ain’t Sugar” (VGP 335).

Source #3 is the best source (clearer and stereo). It appeared as bonus on the vinyl ‘Saturday Night Live’ (Bured Records – SNL 103) but sadly it contains only 4 tracks.

I tested different merges trying to get a better sound and to find the edited parts: I decided to keep my favorite. In the first tracks the sound quality was average so I decided to create a second volume.

Vol 01 is a combination of two sources

Vol 02 is a merge of 2 sources

Volume 01

(2 sources combined)

The most interesting tracks are the 4 coming from the incomplete source #3: a special thanks to BT2G who send me his de-clicked rip.

They are completed by my version of ‘2nd Generation’ (no label). I received it years ago from a French fan (‘JS’) and it was claimed to be a new rip from the master tape used by Risk Disk.

As usual the sources are de-clicked, balanced and the phase is upgraded. For the speed I used as reference source #3.

All tracks are from source #1, except when noted

01 - Let It Rock

02 - All Down The Line

03 - Honky Tonk Women

04 - Star Star

05 - When The Whip Comes Down

source #3, except for the first 3 seconds come from source #1

06 - Miss You

source #3

07 - Beast Of Burden

08 - Respectable

09 - Far Away Eyes

source #3

10 - Love in Vain

source #3

11 - Shattered

12 - Tumbling Dice

13 - Happy

14 - Brown Sugar

15 - Jumpin' Jack Flash

16 - Street Fighting Man

Rose Tattoo 1980-00-00 Bondi Lifesaver, Sydney, Australia

Rose Tattoo at the Bondi Lifesaver, Sydney, 1980.

Live to air on JJJ FM, one of Australians greatest live bands playing the last live gig at one of Australia's greatest live venues. The Bondi Lifesaver was one of the most important venues in the country during the Aussie Pub Rock boom of the 70's and early 80's and Rose Tattoo were one of the most important bands on the pub rock circuit.  Formed in Sydney in 1977 by Pete Wells, the Tatts built up a loyal following in this country and later overseas with their slide guitar influenced hard rock sound. AC/DC frontman Bon Scott was apparently instrumental in getting Rose Tattoo signed to Alberts where AC/DC producers Harry Vanda and George Young produced their Self Titled debut album in 1978.  By the mid 80's, and after numerous lineup changes, Rose Tattoo called it a day, only to reform in 1993 after a request from Guns N'Roses to support their Use Your Illusion Australian Tour.  The band are still very poplular in Europe, especially Germany, and have toured there regularly since the late 90's.

Also checked out this site... http://www.cnewton.force9.co.uk/nitr/801203.htm
and it looks like a complete set from the last night of the 'Night in the Ruts Tour'.
I will be anxiously awaiting what flaws and complaints will be discovered.
This is disc 3 of the 6 disc 'King's Chronicle' set and you can find artwork at www.aerosmithbootlegs.com.
I won't be seeding any of the other 'KC' discs because some have material released on 'Live Bootleg' and 'Classics Live' and some have SBE and serious sound drop-out issues.
