Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

I have both, now looking for an upgrade from pre-FM master. I have been told that the "High Voltage" radioshow was aired on 1989-05-08. Several not-so great copies are circulating, incl. a 42:49 min FM version that sounds great but has the last two songs badly clipped, resulting in awful digital crackling, and a 44:04 min FM > master tape transfer which sounds excellent too but is too compressed - dynamic range being only DR6)

(3) Badlands 1992-07-02 Astoria, London, England, UK (~90 min or ~56 min SBD recording - different source than the ~44 min FM broadcast mentioned above.)

Many thanks to Mikesline for taping and sharing his master tape transfer(s), and many thanks to Luladsilva for fixing and remastering transfer #1!

The first version of this show that I uploaded was a non-remastered version combining disc 1 from transfer #3 with disc 2 from transfer #1 of the same master tape. Transfer #1, the oldest transfer, is probably a more or less 'raw' transfer of the tape and sounds very good (though not perfect) to me, but regrettably had lots of clicks due to small spots of digital silence on disc 1, probably caused by a defective CDR. I didn't think all those clicks could be properly removed, hence my decision to use disc #1 from (the second-best-sounding) transfer #3 instead for the original upload. After that upload, my friend and fellow Dimer Luladsilva contacted me and told me he would be willing to try and remaster the show. His offer was very welcome, especially since a few people mentioned they didn't think the master transfer(s) sounded quite right, and one suggested it might be due to a lack of Azimuth adjustment. Thus, I sent all 3 transfers to Luladsilva. He agreed transfer #1 was best, and to my surprise and delight, he took the time and indeed managed to remove all the little clicks from disc 1, so he was able to use the transfer #1 completely as the source for his remaster. I don't know what he did for remastering, but the software he used was Izotope RX 6 Advanced, Izotope Ozone 8 Advanced and Adobe Audition. I checked both the original transfer and this remaster for dynamic range, and actually the dynamic range has increased rather than reduced by the remastering procedure (DR11 vs. DR10), which is nice of course.

This is the first time in flac, a "known gen" has circulated from this recording.

In 1975, Alice Cooper returned as a solo artist with the release of Welcome to My Nightmare.

The success of Welcome to My Nightmare marked the final break-up of the original members of the band,

with Cooper collaborating with their producer Bob Ezrin, who recruited Lou Reed's backing band, including guitarists Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, to play on the album.

The recording is now de-clicked, balanced (+10 to +20 % to the right channel), the azimuth and the phase are adjusted.

For this first show, three sources circulate:

Source #1 was found first on ‘Fake Band On Lakeland’ (Risk Disk 006) and later in slightly upgraded form on ‘Lakeland’72 (no label), ‘No Lisk In Lakeland’ (ExCD 036) and ‘2^nd Generation’ (no label).

Source #2 corresponds to “We Ain’t Sugar” (VGP 335).

Source #3 is the best source (clearer and stereo). It appeared as bonus on the vinyl ‘Saturday Night Live’ (Bured Records – SNL 103) but sadly it contains only 4 tracks.

I tested different merges trying to get a better sound and to find the edited parts: I decided to keep my favorite. In the first tracks the sound quality was average so I decided to create a second volume.

Vol 01 is a combination of two sources

Creation of the merges was helpful in identifying the edited parts, and sometimes resulted in a better sound.

Most interesting was merging the VGP 335 version with the Risk Disk version (after reworking the speed this version appered to be more interesting as expected).

I used the official version (Fort Worth) to try to find the correct speed.

Source #2 (VGP 335) is in the left channel (and now decelerated by -3%) and Risk Disk (source #1) in the right channel (now decelerated by -10%°).
As usual all versions used are de-clicked, balanced and phase adjusted.

All tracks are merged except in portions where one of the two sources was previously edited.

Notes:
Here we have a totally unheard, uncirculated soundboard recording, capturing the Van Halen concert in Louisville during their Diver Down tour (Hide Your Sheep tour) in 1982. This is the earliest date documented to feature the standard 1982 setlist arrangement, which was significantly reorganized sometime between July 27th and 30th, while the earliest dates of the tour were notably structured differently. Additionally, like all shows from this date until the middle of September, the setlist includes D.O.A., a song which is not known to have been played since the first night of 1979 tour.

Unfortunately, this recording is relatively short and incomplete, due to having been recorded on a single 60 minute tape, and for some reason Roy started recording about 18 minutes late into the show. However, an old circulating audience recording DOES exist, which is complete.

This soundboard recording starts significantly late, right after Runnin' With The Devil would've concluded, when Dave does his first lengthy interlude to interact with the audience. The first side of the 60 minute master tape runs out right after the first part of Everybody Wants Some, just as Dave is about to do his short "we take it for granted that everybody wants some, but the question to ask ourselves is how much are you willing to give" interlude. While no songs are missing in between, we're still missing the ending of Everybody Wants Some, with the second side of the tape starting again just in time for Dance The Night Away. The second side of the 60 minute master tape sadly ends only about a minute into D.O.A., so is missing Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, Bottoms Up, You Really Got Me, and Happy Trails.

Huge thanks to those who significantly helped with the absurd pricetag that was required to liberate this VH collection, most of which would've been impossible to save otherwise.

I recently started going through some of the 50 plus boxes of tapes i have stored in my garage and have pulled out some of my favorite shows.
Many of them i haven't listened to since i got them back in the 80's. I'm going to try and share as many of them as i can. The shows i will be sharing
will be 1st generation copies i got directly from the tapers. Before i share any of them though i want to make sure i secure permission to post them from the tapers.
This will be the first time i share any recordings that are not my own masters.

The first bunch of shows will be from a master taper who did some of the best audience recordings you'll ever hear from the 80's. He asked me not to list his name
so out of respect for him please do not use it in any of the comments if you should know who he is, many of you will. I have a lot of his recordings to share and you
don't want to miss out on them.

[DH] TV broadcast with pretty bad sound for a professional recording. Fine performance with the only live version of "I Got the Blues."
Available on several LPs but the CD listed above is best.  The performance was touched up in the studio, the original version has recently surfaced on 2 different CDs. The better one is the Japanese "The Lost Marquee Tapes 1971."

Mediocre audience recording on LP.  Good performance.  "More Music and Better
Sound" LPs have "Prodigal Son," others don't.  The LP sounds a little slow.
This has been copied onto different Japanese CDs.  The CD of the same name
sounds over-processed to my ears but I recommend the version that comes with
the "Lost Marquee Tapes" set (see below), as it's a nice transfer, speed
corrected and carefully equalized.
