Neil Young 2014-01-07 Carnegie Hall NYC, NY

Neil Young 2014-01-07 Carnegie Hall NYC, NY
This set was recorded full econo-mode, straight to my Edirol R-09's built in mics. The copied from SD card to my Mac and cut into tracks and exported to FLAC with Amadeus Pro. Fingerprints created with xACT; Torrent file ands upload facilitated with Transmit.

I am providing the highest quality file I have and these will convert back to 24/48 audio. Re-Convert as you need for CDs or other uses but please do not trade other then original files. (as if I could stop you) If you do not like the way I record or the equipment I use, wait for another upload.

Beyond that, I hope you Enjoy!

This is the second night of Neil’s four night run at Carnegie Hall. Great set list, same as last night, less calling from the crowd and therefor less Neil banter telling folks to STFU. Nice change. Again the pace is relaxed as Neil wanters the stage, messing with his harps and moving from instrument to instrument, touching and talking about his guitars. This was another really nice night.

From Hank to Hendrix
On the way home

PS: Don't Sell This

PSS: For the inevitable requests;
I’m really sorry but I can’t offer other bit depths. There is only so much time in the day and I love to contribute music to this venue and hope that folks enjoy these shows too. So I  put to the best of what I have and hope users will take a little effort to get the output files they need. It should be a one step process, I know it is with the Mac based software recommended below. I hope it is just as easy with the windows options.

On the Mac I think XLD is great; you give it a batch of files and it will out put pretty much what ever you need and will easily convert these 24bit flacs to 16bit AIFFs you can burn to CD. It will also allow you to clean up the metadata if you roll that way. Right click to apply to batch. While definitely worth a donation it is totally free, check it out.

For windows, I would drove to hear more current suggestions but I have always heard great rings about Traders Little Helper.  But I do not use it nor am I 100% sure that it will take a 24bit flac and give your a 16bit wav in one motions. I have also heard good things about   I also had  recommended as a straight bit conversion for free that will take what I gave and give you swell CD quality. GO!

As with all of this windows stuff all the same caveats apply - I don’t use it and have not tried it. Still I would continue to welcome any current confirmation or commentary to help make this note more helpful.

Neil talked alot, but not too much and not about the blatant violation of Treaty no.8,
He let the music do the talking. He changed the last verse(s) of Pocahontas - got a youtube
clip of that below.

The recording turn out well. There's some parts where the talking didn't come out clearly, due
to too low recording levels.Batted down the applause somewhat.

It was a fantastic concert!

Total time: 1:26:45

I've tracked the commercials so that you can delete them if they're of no interest to you. These are flac files of wavs, digitized directly from the 3-lp set, and manually declicked one click at a time in Audacity. I've included scans of the box, a record label, the cue sheet, and affidavit. There are a couple of celebrity ccommercials in there, Whitney Houston and also the Manhattan Transfer.  Minute Maid Orange Soda is no longer manufactured.

Tracks from this concert were broadcast several times by Westwood One. Show #89-13 has the same set list but with Shoot The Moon in the place of Riptide. Show #90-07 restores Riptide and drops Shoot The Moon...Show #04-28 is a shorter, one hour show, drawn from the same source with the tracks in a different order. There may be more, my list is not complete.

Right now, Palmer's late 70s and 80s output is in print on CD over at Culture Factory, in limited edition mini-lp format. My understanding is they have a print run of about 3,000 copies, so if you like this, hie thee over there and get 'em before you have to pay silly-money on Ebay.

There is a 1/2 second long vinyl defect in track 10 (Every Kind Of People) that could not be fixed. It wasn't a skip or debris embedded in the grooves, it was a pressing defect. I flattened the volume on the KRRRRSSSSS noise that was there to make it less annoying.

MY first return to my alma mater since graduating in 1990. 23 years since I have visited the lawn.

Graduate of University of Virginia 1990. Then went on to medical college, but that is another decade.  On with the show...

We pick up episode 2 after The Baltimore show, which the next day we drove from to Charlottesville, where we settled in the day before the show.
Now on to day of the show.
After driving a short distance to the venue, we parked then gathering our things and headed to arena. Approximately about a mile away.
As I was mingling in front of arena before entering, I was informed that The Ch'ville po po were following me, as I do have a watchful mule to be my eyes for such events. Maybe following me because i was doing some adjustments to my outfit.
...suspected i was bringing something into show--I went back to my car, put my " recording stuff" in the car then entered the arena right in front of them with NOTHING. Went to our seats- but i had kept 2 sets of tickets and scanned just one going in, so my " taper friendly" sidekick went back out of arena then re-packed Taper gear (because if they saw me again they might suspect something), so we go into arena separately, and entered the arena a second time using OUR SECOND set of tickets -using other ticket--just in the chance something like this would happen- she got me the taper gear by going back to car (ah yeah, the car is about a mile away parked) then coming in again and just within minutes I actually set up at my seat, (first time doing that)with my neighbors now knowing that i am recording and they were cool with it. So i was able to hit RECORD just in time right before PJ started. that is why i only recorded with one rig because i usually use 2 rigs, but like i stated my partner had to go back to the car to retrieve a set up and it was faster to pick up just one, thus using the Schoeps CCM41 for the Ch'ville show. There is another story for this Charlotte show. It is a hell of a story, and the fact we did Baltimore, Charlottesville, and charlotte traveling by Plane and car.
Yeah. I had 2 pairs of hard tickets. I can sometimes assess what seat might be best, or in the case of Charlottesville I used the second set of tickets so bluntforcetraumamomma could then leave the arena get the taper gear-hide it- then re enter arena using the SECOND pair of tickets, this worked out so well, it makes for a great story. BFTmomma had to leave arena run a mile to get to the car parked then get back--just in time for me to set up at seat and hit RECORD.
it is very expensive--but i guess I am addicted to recording. I really enjoy PJ and i always capture the shows i go to. I owe a heap of money now. BUT i can also relive every minute of the shows forever.

(after the song is over Ed says Òthanks a lotÓ and starts strumming his 12 string acoustic and singing the Òa-ah, oh ohÓ outro. The audience joins in and they sing a couple of rounds of the outro. Not unlike the ÒBlackÓ outro sing along)

17. The Fixer
18. Down
(early in the song Ed sees something he doesnÕt like happening. He asks if something is wrong and stops the band. The house lights come up and Ed says, ÒI think this is going to get sorted out quickly.Ó After a very brief pause Ed says ÒThat was just a speed bump.Ó The band starts back into the song).

Encore Break 1
(Ed jokes about how cool it would be if the 12 year old in the front had his first sip of wine at a Pearl Jam show. He says we will talk to our accountant and see if we can set up a fund in case the kid ends up at AA. He says Òthis next song we havenÕt played this tour because it is so fucking depressing.Ó He apologizes to the parents for saying ÒfuckÓ so much in front of the kids. He thanks the audience for taking such good care of each other and that except for that one person it is great that it is safe for the kids to be up front.)

20. The End
21. Thumbing My Way
(this one is about getting out of college or not even getting into college or working a job that isnÕt the one you wanted...hopefully when you get out of college their will be jobs to have.)
22. Sleight Of Hand
(Ed starts to play ÒFuture DaysÓ then asks the band if they can change the order. Stone starts playing ÒFootstepsÓ.
23. Footsteps
(ÒThat last song is such a beautiful piece of music. You can say that when you didnÕt write it. That music is so good and they let me write a song to it. Chris Cornell wrote a song to it and I think Andy Wood wrote a song to it. LetÕs thank Jeff and Stone for starting this all off. And can we thank Matt Cameron for playing in two fucking bands? Okay, letÕs turn the cameras off and get this over with. Ed goes down and pours something into a cup and says ÒThat is for the Dad, you can do whatever you want with it.Ó (this refers back to Ed wanting to give some wine to the 12 year old in the front). Ed then laughs and says, that Òis Gatorade. No wait, that was the wine...No, it was the Gatorade...well that is what some people call it.Ó Ed promises to talk about Mike later and introduces Boom.)

Encore Break 2
(Ed mentions a sign he sees about Lou Reed. Jeff plays a line of ÒWalk On The Wild SideÓ. Ed says, ÒLetÕs, on the count of three, maybe he can still hear us, say Ôwe love you LouÕ.Ó Ed counts off and the audience complies.)
31. Breath
32. State Of Love And Trust
33. Alive
(Ed brings the young man up on the stage. Ed notes they knew every word to every song. Ed says that is great that kids are so into the band because they will at least have an audience of 2 people into their 80Õs. Ed notes, ÒThis is the Led Zeppelin arenaÓ Mike starts playing Led Zeppelin riffs. Ed corrects himself, Òoh no John Paul Jones arena)
34. Baba OÕRiley-(Townshend)
