NOTES:
To my knowledge, this is the most complete version of this show
available, and runs at the correct speed, unlike the "Savage Young
Pistols" CD.  Like most Sex Pistols boot releases, this CD is mastered
at "Death Magnetic"-levels of volume.  The only additional processing
I've done is to hard-limit the levels at -4.5dB in Izotope RXII Advanced,
and reduce some annoying pops/clicks in tracks 5/6 from the CD.

D2 Soundboard Master, recorded by traink
16bit, 48 kHz transfer by reelclasio: DAT Cassette > Pioneer D-05 > Hucht > Tascam SS-R1 Compact Flash Card
> PC > Samplitude 11 for Track splitting

Second installment of a new batch of Townes recordings (6) fellow dimer traink gave me. He recorded Townes a couple of times
in Germany in the ninetees. A few of these recorings are his own masters, a few are traded copies on DAT.

This project is a true team effort: traink provided the tapes and handed them over a few weeks ago at In The Woods. Not only did he give me these Townes tapes,
he also included Eric Taylor and Chris Smither.
I brought the tapes to reelclasio, who still has working DAT recorders. Moreover he's one of the better tapers of the Netherlands. He did a 16/48 transfer
and sent me the raw files and a quickly edited version. Fredtaper did the final editing.
I coordinated the project, split a few files that had more than one song, adapted the setlist, downsampled to 44.1kHz for burning to CD.

The recordings I'll share are either new into circulation or fresh transfers of shows that are circulating, making them an upgrade.

The show shared here is not new into circulation, but it's a direct transfer from the master tape. The version shared on Dime a few times came from traded CD's.
One thing puzzles me: at the end it has 2 extra tracks. I don't know if that version came from another recording or that they didn't belong here (fillers).

I included covers that were made for the previous version, removing the last 2 tracks. Please note that the disc split on the covers differs from this fresh transfer.
This current split is the correct one: 2 sets, 2 discs corrsponding with the sets.

Great sounding soundboard recording with an impressive setlist, holding 9 of my favourite songs that I included in my compilation
" My Sorrow", making it one of the best shows of Townes' later period for me.

Notes:
Very solid, tight performance. Show moves along pretty fast as they don't do as much fooling around as in other shows. "Ice Cream Man" is among the shortest 1981 renditions. Dave's rap after "Hear About It Later" is also a little shorter. Not much else to say other than this is a nicely executed show that really doesn't have any hitches.

There probably aren't many lower-gen tapes out there of this. Unlike other copies, this has the encores and the encores are the same quality as the rest of the show. Quality is pretty good for a 1981 recording. There's audience cheering but you'll hear the songs just fine without much interference. There is a minor cut at the beginning of "Everybody Wants Some" for a tape flip, and then a minor cut in crowd noise before the encores for a tape change. Other than that there aren't any analog issues to speak of. If you're really picky about analog quality and only want a handful of the best recordings, you might like this, you might not. For example if you don't accept anything less than the Philly 7/21/81 "Martial Law" quality, then don't download. Everyone else though should have no problem enjoying this recording.

I never knew Jon Casper, chances are you didn't either. But Jon was a long term taper at many Dylan shows, the main reason you won't know this is Jon was not part of the usual tapers circuit, and his recordings have never been circulated widely until now. Jon passd away in 2007 but now some years later his widow has given me access to this terrific collection. She has also agreed that I can shere them here.
I asked her to write a few words about him, below is what she has asked me to post

Taping Bob Dylan live in concert combined two of Jon (Casper)’s greatest passions:  enjoying Dylan’s music at its best—that is, performed live--and creating recordings with audiophile sound.
Jon spent a lot of time, energy, and not a small amount of money securing the highest performing equipment he could, figuring how to get the best results from it and continually tweaking tools and methods to achieve as close to perfect sound as he could manage. He not only pored over technical specs, meticulously maintained equipment, secured the best blank tapes for a given machine, handled and stored them carefully.  He also tried to locate himself in an acoustically desirable spot at each venue, avoided any conversation while tapes were running, and did whatever he could to shield his mikes from other concert-goers who were not as fastidious about paying attention.
There’s nothing like taping to help you notice how many people pay big bucks for tickets simply to hang with friends, and spend most of the show  discussing what they watched on TV the night before or where to go after!
While Jon taped numerous artists – including Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, k.d. lang, Paul Simon, and many lesser known acts, Dylan was number one. He was fortunate enough to see and tape approximately 200 shows in the U.S. and several other countries, starting with the Rolling Thunder Revue in 1975.
Some of Jon’s happiest times were in the car after a concert, deck plugged into the stereo, listening to the tape he’d just made while driving to the next city. There he’d check into a hotel and immediately start getting things organized to be ready to roll in plenty of time for the next night’s show.

It was recorded on a Sony Walkman Pro  (D6)
I believe with Sennheiser binaural mikes, on Fuji FR Metal (type IV) cassette.
Transferred  back on a Nakamichi CR-7A and recorded using Adobe Audition

having read the above some may wonder why this is the first show to appear the others will follow hopefully, but the reason this oneis first will soon be apparant. Watch this space..

Enjoy

This is Volume 4 of 6 DVD’s straight from the vaults of the NBC. A total of over 10 hours of recordings from the 1980 Floor Show of which only a mere 45 minutes were actually released in the US. The recordings include dance rehearsals, song rehearsals and much more. These DVD’s contain very rare live performances from David that have never been released in any other form ever before. Bowie's performance on Saturday the 19th October, went on for over 10 hours as each song was performed and filmed over and over. Because of the small size of the Marquee, only two cameras were able to film and so each song was shot, as many as five to six times, to allow for camera re-positioning and the overall satisfaction of Bowie and the film crew. The whole thing was, according to Bowie later, "shot abysmally." The fans, of course, loved the fact that they got to see their hero perform many times over. During the intervals between takes, and despite having just recovered from a recent bout of influenza, Bowie laughs and jokes with the audience and signs autographs. This DVD set is absolutely 100% authentic and a must for every David Bowie fan. The DVD's are recorded region free. All six DVDs make up more than 10 hours from The 1980 Floor Show (The Midnight Special).

There is a short cut in the beginning of Deathwish.
There is some noticeable cassette hiss and some slight crackling possibly from the age of the recording. Other than that it's a pretty decent recording of The Police from a time period which, in my opinion shows them at their best and most creative.
Sting was late with the vocals for "Truth Hits Everybody."

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978.  His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity.  In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes.  He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings.  In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands:  Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated.  Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes.  No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers.  Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community.  Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

Taper's notes:

1) Quite obviously, these files should be traded freely and never for profit. Remember to support the artists!

2) It is likely that several sources of this show will emerge. For ease of convenience, please refer to this as the "MFS source".

3) Minor imperfections: there's a bit of chatter beside me during the start of "Kiss Me on The Bus". Someone to my R sings along to the first verse of "Androgynous". There's some clapping along around me during "Left of the Dial". None of these are particularly egregious.

January 16 2014

A Concert To Aid The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Legal Defense.

Diana Krall opened

Neil talked alot, but not too much and not about the blatant violation of Treaty no.8,
He let the music do the talking. He changed the last verse(s) of Pocahontas - got a youtube
clip of that below.

The recording turn out well. There's some parts where the talking didn't come out clearly, due
to too low recording levels.Batted down the applause somewhat.

It was a fantastic concert!

CD-R1 - PHR - SB 5 - (50:28:45)

Track List:
1) Badge
2) Presence of the Lord
3) Tell the Truth
4) Ramblin' on My Mind
5) Steady Rollin' Man
6) Blues Power

Geetarz Comments:

One of the better 1974 shows available, both in performance and recording quality. Unlike many of the shows where the band (and their leader's) performance was uneven, this was one of those nights where everyone was at least articulate and coherent, if not "on fire". Rather than rote run-throughs of the setlist, there is some nice artistic expression here. At about 6:50 into 'Tell the Truth' the band goes into a funky vamp, which works out nicely, with a nice segue into "Hideaway" and the "Peter Gunn" theme into a spirited performance of "Ramblin' On My Mind". "Blues Power" also features some nice jamming by the band. Recommended.

Dire Straits 1985-05-27 Forest National, Brussels, Belgium

LIVE IN BELGIUM 1985

Artist: Dire Straits
Venue: Forest National, Brussels, Belgium
Date: 27th May 1985
Source: Audience
Format: 2CD-R
Tracks CD 1:
Expresso love
So far away
Romeo and Juliet
Private investigations
Sultans of swing (small part missing in outro solos)
Walk of life
Two young lovers
The man’s too strong
Money for nothing
Wild west end
Tracks CD 2:
Tunnel of love
Brothers in arms
Solid rock
Mark Knopfler thanking the audience
Going home

Additional comments:
There are two versions of this recording.
The recording "Live in Brussels 1985" is taken from the rare original bootleg LP called "Live in 85"
which was originally thought to have been recorded at Showgrounds, Mackay,
Australia on 31st March 1986 and has pretty good sound. This recording ("Live in Belgium 1985") is a poor sounding, rare audience recording from 27th May 1985.
It turned out that both recordings were made at Forest National, Brussels, Belgium from the latter date of 27th May 1985.
It appears that they were recorded seperately, because the quality from the bootleg LP is much, much better than this counterpart recording.
Very rare to hear Mark play wrong on Brothers in arms at a moment on this concert!
Complete concert except for the first song Ride across the river which is missing.
Only get this full concert if you are a real die hard fan....the sound is really poor from half way through Romeo and Juliet onwards.

This is Volume 3 of 6 DVD’s straight from the vaults of the NBC.

This is the second transfer I've done of my master tapes, I was never too happy with the first transfer and felt it was time to re-visit this one with better equipment, software and mastering knowledge.

Recorded about 3/4 of the way back in the lower balcony a half dozen or os rows up from the floor. I'm very pleased with the results of this transfer and it should be considered a material upgrade over what is currently circulating.

Not too much to say about the show itself, typical 90215 show, solid performances of the new material and the old material sounds great.

Seamless transfer with no music missing, splices or cuts.

Thanks to E from JEMS for the loan of the DR-1 and his continued selflessness in doing whatever is necessary to bring quality recordings to the dime community.

David Bowie – 1980 Floor Show Outtakes 6 disc set

Proshot Disc 2of6

Please note:
Received this six DVD set around 8 years ago, before you consider this particular upload I just want all you MWP members who already have this set.

The person who give them to me told me that these were the master copies before they tuck on some really nice tiding up and editing out the bad bits,
so you may not want these but then again you never really know if anything in them where chopped out by mistake.

So for starters, I will upload disc 1 and see what we all think, i.e. carry on with this unusual set of uploads or stop and just
let someone upload the ones from MWP which I know because of the masterful editing and very nice artwork will be the most pleasing to watch.

This is a low-gen copy of the common source of this show.
This was a real bitch to transfer given the volume fluctuations but
I did the best I could to even out the recording levels on the
standalone burner. From the middle of YRGM on, the quality
deteriorates.
