Bruce Springsteen 1980-11-05 Arizona State University Tempe, AZ

 "Hearts and Souls"
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Arizona State University
Tempe
November 5 1980

This is a reworked version of the old E Street Records bootleg named "Heart and Soul."
The identical recording (warts and all) also circulates on the Palace Records label as "Live in Tempe 1980."

Both the original bootlegs have the same few problems, mainly dropouts during "Promised Land", "Stolen Car", and "Backstreets".
These problems have all been addressed with this re-edit.
There was also an annoying burst of feedback during a piano interlude between "Racing in The Street" and "The River" which has also been excised with some judicious editing.
By selectively eliminating some between song crowd noise, I was also able to create enough room on CD 01 for "Thunder Road" so the entire first set of the concert is now intact.
Some very minor EQ work has also been applied, but no compression was used.

Note: Just the main event is included here, the bonus tracks from other concerts that were tacked on to the
original bootlegs are not.
I hope you will find this version of this classic show enjoyable to listen to.
This recording has been reworked by others previous to this attempt, but I think this latest offering has the most seamless corrections to date. I'm grateful towards those who over time have always provided us with so many great listening experiences here.

As far as the show itself, this concert took place early on in the tour, actually the day after Ronald Reagan was elected President.  Bruce Springsteen makes a rueful comment about this leading into "Badlands."  No less than 18 songs from the new album were played this night.  It has always been my favorite River tour era concert to listen to.
There are rumors that should a boxed set featuring a remastered "River" album see the light of day, this is the show that will also be showcased on video as it was professionally filmed.
