JOE'S MEMORIES:
Montrose was the opening band for this concert, also featuring Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie.
They were so new to the music scene, that  MC, J.J. Jackson, of Boston's top FM station, WBCN,
started to introduce them as "one of the really great new bands to come out of England",
before vocalist Sammy Hagar interrupted him, to say "Hey, we're from America!".
With that taken care of, they did a 35 minute set that showed that it wouldn't be long before they would be the headliners.
The set was a showcase for their debut album, "Montrose", that had only been released about five months before this show.
"Good Rockin' Tonight" started thing off, followed by "Bad Motor Scooter", a song that Sammy Hagar has featured throughout his solo career.
The third song wasn't introduced by title, but was referred to as "something new, that'll be on our next album".
Judging by the lyrics, it could have been called "Let's Go For a Ride", but it might have become one of those "lost" classics,
since it didn't appear on the next album, "Paper Money", or on any other album that we know of. "Make It Last" was next,
then a short Ronnie Montrose guitar solo went into "Rock The Nation", the album's great opening track.
Opening bands didn't usually get time to do encores, but the audience definitely wanted to hear more from this great new band.
J.J. brought them back out and for their encore, they did a nine minute version of "Space Station #5", the song that would become the
"signature" finale song for Montrose and Sammy Hagar, for the rest of their performing years. What a great introduction to a great band!

Many Many Thanks To Joe
