Yes 1977-09-22 Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA

Yes 1977-9-22 Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA

This recording has never been distributed before.
It was recorded on an early mono Sony Recording Walkman (undefeatable AGC, sorry) from the audience in the fairly cavernous Oakland Colosseum Arena (about 1/3 back & halfway up, stage left risers), hence it is not a great recording.
Certainly listenable though, I give it a C+, though it rises to about a B in many spots.
There are some dropouts on the master, and the ends of 'Awaken' and 'And You And I' had to be patched due to batteries running out.
(The patches came from a boot of the Chicago show on the same tour.)
The encore of 'Roundabout' was (of course) performed at this show but did not get recorded.
There are also a few distracting audience noises & clearly audible comments, the most egregious being the moron who yells out 'Hey Wakeman, do a sola!' during the quiet part of 'Awaken'.
Despite these flaws, it is an excellent performance and Yes collectors will find it enjoyable.
If there is a better recording of this same performance, I'd love to hear it.
I will post a few samples in a bit.

Source: > mono cassette MASTER> digitized and mastered in 1997- denoised with Arboretum Ionizer> dynamic range expanded and EQ'd with WAVES C4 and Renaissance EQ in Peak 2> MacFlac

Disc One:
1.01 Firebird Suite (1:48)
1.02 Parallels (6:26)
1.03 I've Seen All Good People (7:24)
1.04 Close To The Edge (20:11)
1.05 Wonderous Stories (4:55)
1.06 Colours Of The Rainbow (:58)
1.07 Turn Of The Century (8:29)

Disc Two:
2.01 And You And I (fades in, dropouts at top) (9:54)
2.02 Going For The One (6:06)
2.03 Awaken Jam (4:30)
2.04 Awaken (16:39)

Jon Anderson
Steve Howe
Chris Squire
Rick Wakeman
Alan White

A couple of thoughts on this performance:

1. I was outraged, OUTRAGED I tell you, that tickets for this show went for the then oh-so-steep price of $7.50. Why, I had never paid more than $6 for a show in my life to that point! If only I knew then what I know now!

2. The laser & light show at this performance was hands down the best I'd seen at a rock show before or since. During Awaken, the laser beams generated seemed to mimic the art of the lines on the 'Going For The One' album cover. Simply outstanding. (It is at that point that you can hear the guy next to me admonishing the moron next to him for taking flash pictures of the light show, blinding about half the row. Exactly what did he think would come out on that photograph?) I saw the show the next night and there was no laser show; maybe it was broken, but I never saw lasers at a Yes show again. Someone suggested that they stopped using them for fear of a lawsuit. Can anyone verify if lasers were used on any date from this tour on or after 9/24/77?

Notes: Another transfer from a VHS I got from Andre Fantarrow - lo gen, not sure how low.

Transferred by direct wire from VHS to DVD recorder, then recompiled using Ulead Movie Factory.

It's from a reasonable distance back, left of centre.  Close-ups are good, but because of the distance, it's not exactly pin sharp; and at times it can get a bit blurry and/or juddery.  Screen caps attached to listing.

I did hit a little snag that, in order to take out a messy bit between the main set and the encores, I got bad lip synch.  The only way to address this was to separate them into two sets - main and encore.  Play all and you'll get all, however.

Neil Young 1976-11-19/20 Palladium New York City, NY

After this 1976 fall tour torrent flood (thanks Agostino!) I noticed that none of the Palladium shows were on the tracker.
I decided to upload this 2 rare acoustic sets from shows in Palladium 19 and 20th (late show)
As far as I know the whole shows did never circulate.
These 2 partial shows are indeed rare, I got them in a trade about 20 years ago, so here there are, dusted off from my private collection.
I hope that the whole shows will pop up in the future !

Funny things cycles, i was weaned on a diet of Sinatra (and vegetable soup), not a day went by without Frank blaring out from my dad's cheap radiogram/record player.
I grew to love the songs, appreciate the exceptional delivery of them and the seeds of fascination for the names in brackets after the song titles was sewn.
20 odd years ago, i saw the guvnor tread these very boards with my old man, he was coming towards the end of his roller coaster career, he would have been around the same age
as Bob is now and despite the auto cue he now relied on , he still had it, still lived in the song, still meant every word, still had the voice.
So it is tonight, each time Dylan launches into one of his "Sinatra" songs, a shiver goes through me, a near lifetime flashes by, and yeah, Bob still has it too, in spades..

Some comments from the taper Silvertrain:

Hey U2 friends …here is the complete recording of the by far BEST of the four U2 shows  in Barcelona.

My God !!!  what a set list:  Spanish Eyes debut. Mr Javier Bardem and Mrs Penelope Cruz invited to dance on the small stage. Please forgive a small cut after People have the power and Miracle of Joey Ramone full song (I missed Bono vocal solo intro, Edirol stopped for a minute) …...strong reason for it…..Bono walking  passing by near us….everybody really excited  so hope you’ll understand.

Heartly dedicated to all of us tapers who try to do our best at every show we attend  to share our recordings with you all. let's keep the music alive. Hope you enjoy the show. And now…rock on

Notes:  Recorded from section 116 row 1.  I was by the front corner of the stage to Paul's right.
The PA stack was above me, but there were two small speaker cabinets in front of the stage about
15 feet awaythat were pointed towards me, so I got a nice clean sound.  I didn't have anyone on either
side of me, and since there were a bunch of security guards within a few feet of me I couldn't really
check my levels very often.  There's little to no crowd noise except for a dipshit a couple of rows
back that hoots and hollers between songs, but the cardioids do a nice job of minimizing the effect.
Also, you may notice during the first part of "Golden Slumbers" there's a bit of chatter between one
of Paul's camera guys and someone in the audience that he knows.  And the little bit of a yell you hear
at the beginning of "Can't Buy Me Love" is the fan who was just onstage with his wife as he walked
by on his way back to their seats.  Of the four times I've seen Paul this was by far the closest I've
been to the stage and, of course, absolutely loved it.  It went by too fast.  I'm still amazed that he
still puts on such a great show and performs at this high of a level and for nearly three hours.
And, yes, it's worth the price of admission.  Go see Paul.  Enjoy!
