I
bought a ticket for this show because I wanted to see the opening act,
The Mastersons (see Vol 69). I had no idea who Justin Currie was, and
after a bit of research, I only slightly recognized the name Del Amitri.
I knew I didn't have time to learn the entire Del Amitri catalogue, so I
wisely purchased Justin Currie's latest CD "Lower Reaches" and was
probably one of the few people at the show that knew these songs well.
On the other hand, there were plenty of songs the audience instantly
recognized that I was hearing for the first time. This is not a common
experience for me, and I have to admit that it added some excitement to
be the outsider looking in. It was even more exciting to have
discovered such a brilliant singer-songwriter by random luck. My only
complaint about the show is that there was a little too much reverb
added to the vocals.
