Queen
Tokyo, Japan
Nihon University Hall (Nichidai Kodo)
April 4, 1976
Empress Valley released their first Queen bootleg earlier this year, and it's a monster ! It's a box set containing nine discs of all four Tokyo shows on the A Night At The Opera tour, six of which are previously uncirculated pre-LP tapes that were first released only on vinyl in incomplete form over 40 years ago. Only 100 copies of the box set were pressed.
About half of the April 4 show comprised the "Lazing On A Sunday Evening" bootleg LP, released in 1976. The uncut tape is heard here for the first time. A second audience source exists from this show, but it is obsolete now that this exists. Most of Brighton Rock and the encores were previously unheard until now. This is a fabulous show from start to finish, the last of the Japanese leg of the tour.
A bonus disc of a later LP pressing, the original "Geisha Boys" bootleg, was included in the package as well.
This is Queen coming off their creative peak and at the top of their game. Sound quality is pretty near excellent throughout.
Thanks to Masahiko for dishing out the shekels for the silvers and sending me the FLAC files, to Empress Valley for what is hopefully their first of many releases of new Queen tapes, and to the original tapers, whoever you are !
