JOE'S MEMORIES:
I had seen the J. Geils Blues Band open up for the Velvet Underground
and they had put on a high energy set of classic Blues and R&B music,
but this show is a perfect example of the J. Geils Band at their peak!
The day of the show was a miserable rainy day and there were delays getting
the equipment and the bands to the University Of Maine gym
(opening band Crazy Horse had exceptionally bad luck this day!).
By the time the J. Geils Band took the stage, all the earlier problems
had been solved and the crowd was ready for some great electric Blues.
The band's second album,"The Morning After", had just been released
and the set was a non stop combination of those new songs,
as well as selections from their debut album, "The J. Geils Band".
From the opening instrumental, "Sno-Cone" to the last song,
"I Don't Need You No More", it's very clear that the J. Geils Band
was giving their all to the crowd. This stop was part of the tour
that resulted in the J. Geils Band "Live" Full House album and this 58 minute show is, a
t times, better than the show that made it to vinyl.
This was the J. geils band at their best, before the "Top 40" hits, before the infighting,
the breakups and the reunions that didn't work out. And now that J. Geils is gone,
we have these memories of happier, simpler days to make us smile.

Many many thanks to Joe
