The Rolling Stones Stoned Again By The Rockers Revised Edition(MCP-RS03

The Rolling Stones
Stoned Again By The Rockers
Revised Edition

NTSC DVD
100 minutes

A collection of clips, mainly from my VHS tapes, however some of the clips were obtained via the Internet.

I always thought of this compilation as the DVD equivalent to the old "100% Odd Lots" LP (which was one of my favorites). Some of the material is crap quality, but interesting. Blink and you'll miss something.

Minor editing was done on the original MCP-RS03, however some extraneous material has been removed, as well as the "Dick Cavett" clips that have since been released by the Cavett organization. The "Upbeat" and "Detroit 1969" clips have been replaced by different sources, and a few new items have been added.

01. Top Of The Pops "Not Fade Away"
02. Upbeat 1965 Interview
03. Live In Vienna 1967 Footage
04. Arrival In Holland 1967
05. 1967 Newsreel - Mick And Marianne
06. Jagger On BBC The Sound Of Change 1968
07. 1969 Footage
08. Hyde Park 1969 Newsreel
09. Detroit 1969 "Little Queenie"
10. Frost On Sunday "Sympathy for The Devil" excerpt
11. Backstage At MSG With Jimi Hendrix - Silent
12. Altamont Crowd Footage
13. More Altamont Footage with "Jumping Jack Flash" excerpt
14. "Little Queenie" Live promo
15. Live 1972 "All Down The Line"
16. "Uptight" Live With Stevie Wonder
17. Goat's Head Soup TV Commercial
18. Live 1973 "Brown Sugar" excerpt
19. Live 1975 "Honky Tonk Women" excerpt
20. It's Only Rock 'N Roll TV Commercial

The Rolling Stones - ABKCO Copyright Preservations_Acid Project 081

Hi Stones fanatics,

This all started with blakeeik`s collection of "Rarities Done Right". He made this list of 3 CD`s from ABKCO Copyright Preservations (that were shared on Youtube for a short time). And i wanted to remaster those tracks for a long time, so i did.

I just added You Can't Always Get What You Want - choir sessions, which was not on his list. I have also done an edit of that track, because it was boring to listen to all of it. All of the music is still there, i have edited out some boring silence between the takes and some talking.
Some talking is still there, so you get the feeling of working session.
I have also added Brown Sugar & Wild Horses [alternate mix - Hot Rocks 1st pressing].
I worked with iZotope RX 10 Spectral Repair to fix that lossy sound and these tracks are not lossy anymore, check it out.
I have also done some phase, level and EQ correction.

Enjoy

s2t07. /When I Paint My Masterpiece [10:45] [0:05]

Notes:
- This is not a great recording, but it is not awful and it certainly
compares favorably with the other source I have, which is derived from
Walter Keenan's xx gen cassette, sounds muddier, runs slower and is less
complete (missing last three songs). Someone with good ears should check
the pitch on this.
- The show itself is very high energy and good, as you might expect from
the great JGB month of February 1980. Let it Rock and Sugaree are both
very hot, That's Alright Mama and Positively 4th Street are hot and great
to hear, and generally I bet a better-sounding source would make this a
big hit with the fans.  This will have to do for now, and thanks go out
to Scott Russell for transferring this source.
- numerous tunes clip in and/or out;
- s1t01 HSII cuts in;
- s1t02 FOTD L channel out first :04; some mic adjustments; static @ 1:22-
1:33;
- s1t04 levels much hotter on LIR;
- s2t03 ITAM cuts out, probably missing a few minutes;
- s2t04 4th Street low levels to start; splice/gap @ 8:19;
- s2t07 static in Masterpiece.

This alternate source was recorded by another now departed friend Mr Wilson, his recording is different to my Jagger Sydney 21st October 1988 torrent which only recently dropped off of DIME
as his has portions of the show that my recording didn't have which are

A. The full Richard Wilkins pre-show introduction
B. Simon Phillips Drum solo
C. Joe Satriani’s guitar solo
D. The songs Gimme Shelter & Start Me Up are complete.

Micks final Sydney concert kicked off differently than the previous 5 Sydney shows, shortly before Mick came on a well-known local um celebrity Richard Wilkins’s (affectionally known by his nick name Dickie)
strolled onto the stage, he’s an Australian TV host / presenter who also at that time conducted celebrity interviews for MTV Australia, one of his MTV Jagger 1988 Sydney interviews was a bonus track on my
Mick Jagger 27th September 1988 torrent.

From centre stage Dickie treated us to a spoken introduction which served two reasons, first up he told the audience that ushers / security staff were about to distribute to the audience red noses
(with a string attached so one could wear it over one’s real nose) telling us they’re left over noses from Red Nose Day that was held for the first time here in February 1988.
I’m under the impression that Red Nose Day is held internationally, but if one is unfamiliar with Red Nose Day it’s held once a year, the money raised from selling these red noses goes towards children’s charities
including research into SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Dickie went on to say that we were to put on the plastic noses when we heard the opening bars of Satisfaction, to make sure we knew the song he performed a thankfully brief rendition of the Satisfaction riff,
he tells us that Mick is totally unaware of this jolly jape. 37 years on I cannot remember if I put on my red nose when Satisfaction started, probably not as I guess I was too busy looking to see if others did so.
The 2nd reason was Richard telling us that we were the first people to hear about the upcoming Mick Jagger TV Special "Deep Down Under" which was going to be shown on the Channel 9 network next Saturday the 29th October.
This TV special had been filmed in Melbourne on the 16th & 18th October.

Many are unaware that one of the earlier Sydney Jagger concerts was also filmed for a later broadcast, however the head honcho at CH 9 deemed that it was not fit for Australian TV viewers as on the night of
filming Mick wore a T-Shirt that on the front had a picture of a South Pacific male fertility figure with a huge erect penis. Mick is pictured wearing this very T-shirt on the front cover artwork.
With the Sydney show footage canned Ch 9 decided to film one of the Melbourne shows instead for the broadcast, so unless its been wiped somewhere in Ch 9 vaults is a full Sydney Jagger 1988 concert.

Back to Dickie, he encouraged us to welcome Mick when he arrived on stage with a Mexican wave, going as far to describe to us how to perform a Mexican wave in case we didn’t know what one was,
then he made us do one which quickly fell apart, Dickie then toddled offstage, to this very day he can occasionally be seen on Australian TV.

While waiting for Mick we were treated to a number of songs over the P.A, the last song played was the Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK " which strangely was also the last song played over the PA before
the Stones came onstage at the gigs I saw at Wembley Stadium, London in June 1999. Could this Sex Pistols song be a guilty pleasure of Mick’s? BTW I taped the 2nd Wembley gig the 12th June 1999.

The stage set up for the Jagger tour was stark & simple but rather effective. The house lights light go off, the stage is bathed in blue light, the scene in front of the side to side curtains appears to be a dump of
some kind decorated with corrugated tin sheets, there’s some netting, petrol pumps, tree branches, assorted boxes strewn around with other bits & pieces, the stage floor was awash with countless newspapers.
The sound of wind filled the venue accompanied by hidden wind machines which blew the newspapers all over the stage. People then came on stage with brooms to sweep up all the aforementioned rubbish off of the floor
so it was all spick n span for Mick to sing & dance on.

Once the cleaning folk depart the curtains are pulled back they revealed a stage set with raised platforms with elevated ramps with steps on each side, a ramp in the middle leading down to the stage, the still unreleased
Jagger instrumental “Deep Down Under” was played through the PA, as soon as that ends the band start up the first number coinciding with the spoken introduction “Ladies & Gentlemen, Mick Jagger” who then came running
down the middle ramp to the front of the stage to much applause.

A nice touch during the show after the drum & guitar solos is when Gimme Shelter kicks off however Mick isn't on stage, a spotlight picks him out out on a stairwell further out from the stage among the audience where
he starts his vocals, then he makes his way down among the audience on the floor (with security guys around him) continuing his way until he's back on stage in time to do the rape & murder part with one of the girl singers.
I attended four of the six Sydney shows, Mick delivered entertaining shows that were well recieved by audiences plus also he gathered good press for these shows, except probably by Reebok who sponorsed the shows
as Mick was always seen out and about wearing Nike trainers!

If there was downside to these shows apart from the over long drum solo it was having to watch the Keith look alike Jimmy Ripp (or Jimmy Ripp Off as he was dubbed here) posturing’s. He even dressed Keith like,
from further back he might have been mistaken for him, I wonder if Mick talked Ripp into dressing similar to Keith to piss Keith off as the Glimmer twins were far from besties during this period, Keith's thoughts
on Jagger’s back-up band were well known as in the press he’d referred to Jagger’s musicians as a “Jerk Off Band”. Another small disappointment for me was Mick’s reluctance to perform more songs from his two solo albums
as I expected a higher ratio of solo material than what was offered.

In a way the 1988 Australian Tour was a sort of dress rehearsal for next years US Steel Wheels tour.

The bonus tracks are songs performed at previous Sydney shows but not on the final night, on the 26th & 27th September we got a double encore of Sympathy For The Devil followed by Satisfaction, Sympathy wasn't
played at the remaining 4 Sydney shows.

The artwork included in this torrent has been made for a 3CD jewel case, so if burning to CD-R use the track listing on the artwork.

I've traded this alternate Sydney 21st October 1988 recording over the years but this 2025 version will make all previous versions null & void.

Thanks to Mr Wilson, Big Knob for the Sydney photos & as always to mjk5510 for his remastering

The PA seems to have died during London Leatherboys.  The vocals go out and all you hear is the band coming from the stage amps.  Udo comments about someone switching off the power, so whether it was on purpose or not I can't say.

Ah the perils of combining the technologies of digital recording with magnetic tape.  This seems to be transferred from a defective DAT tape.  There is diginoise and digital static now and then, particularly about 3 minutes into the first song.

-Incomplete missing several songs at the start of set two

Two weeks and ten shows into the 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town' Tour Bruce and band roll into the long demolished 6,500 seat Sports Arena in Toledo, Ohio and J from JEMS is there
to capture the proceedings.
The LP had been out for 3 days at this point and according to the newspaper review at the time the show still suffered from some of the same mic failures and poor acoustics many of the early shows
in the tour were plagued with (the acoustic issues would not be a surprise from, at the time, a 30 year old building).

The tapes we have are incomplete due to one of those "it happens more times than you think" issues among us old school tapers, as "J" puts it "the classic pause button accidentally put on, the deck was on
the ground and we were standing on our chairs with a long mic cord.  I didn't notice the problem until it was time to flip the tape" (you can hear "J"'s comment after 'Backstreets').
The portion that was captured is a solid documentation of an early 'Darkness' show.

The 9 song first set is captured complete, following the pattern of earlier stops we are likely missing 5 (or 6) songs of the second set and we pick up again halfway through 'Backstreets'.

The tape is a fine capture for the era, slightly muddy at the very start as the crowd stands and works to settle in for the long show, quality improves and is very good to excellent by 'Spirit In The Night'.

This is the first release directly from the master tapes, thanks to Butterking from JEMS for getting the transfer into my hands for release and a big thanks to J for being there that night
to capture it.

We continue our journey through the DS Archives with a previously un-circulated, in the torrent era, 4th recording source for the 9th show of the epic 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town' Tour.

This performance was well covered by the tapers of the time with three previous sources released.
Recorder 1: CDR 'Gapless Sandy Night'
Recorder 2: CDR 'Sandy Night'
Recorder 3: CDR 'Nassau Night In '78' (Mr. Anonymous Master - Fanatic Records)
Recorder 4: DS Archives Volume 17

The 4th source is another very good complete capture with no cuts or edits to the music.

Bruce's first performance at Nassau Coliseum, site of many legendary performances, finds the band still working on nailing down the new tunes and flow of the show, 'Sandy' makes it's 1978 tour premiere.

Thanks to the usual suspects that put me in touch with Dan, their assistance and passion for Bruce and getting this music in your hands continues to be invaluable...IvannF, EarlMv, Oats1jvo and my compadre Butterking from JEMS for the use of the NAK DR-01.

The biggest thanks go to Dan for making his archives available for us all to enjoy...please show your appreciation in the comments.
