Jimi Hendrix The Freezer Tapes

Freezer Burn

Freezer was an old school taper, he taped many wellknown bands in the New Orleans region in the early 70s.
He also saw Hendrix in New Orleans in August 1968 but he didnt tape yet...
He passed away much too young last summer. RIP Freezer!

The story goes that when he was in the comic magazine distribution business their warehouse burnt down, and that they got to use this other warehouse where behind a blind wall there was this stash of reels presumably left there by Alan Douglas.

A couple of collectors were in touch with him and could buy some of this material, which was clearly new and uncirculated.
Thanks to JE, RL, KdL and any others who may have pooled some moneys to get copies of this stuff.

There are 6 'items' here, which i'll try to describe in short, we simply dont know all the details on When, Where and Who.

1 Astro Man - Probably 24 June 1970. 9 takes in Stereo, and 9 Mono mixes of same.

2 'Bootleg' - Probably some material Alan Douglas considered for release or overdubbing.

3 Look Over Yonder - 22 October 1968. Jimi calls it Mr. Lost Soul during these takes. 12 takes spread over 15 tracks in stereo, 15 mono mixes after that. 4 alt. mixes to finish up.

4 Messenger - 18 and/or 20 October 1968. 21 instrumental takes plus part of 'Cant Explain' by The Who.

5 Winter Jams - with Johnny Winter, 7 May 1969. An instrumental jam, Earth Blues Jam and 4 takes of TTIUTD.

6 Winwood/Wood jam - unknown date and location, a couple of instrumental jams with piano organ and flute. Probably with Steve Winwood and Chris Wood.

FTBFS numbers are part of the FLAC filenames in those cases where they exist.
