Yes 1974-02-17 - Interviews 1971-1974

Since there appears to be some interest in Yes interviews I am going to make an effort to convert all my interview tapes that I collected over the past 35 years and put them up on DIME. I intended to convert them to CD for my own use and so far only have 1 CD done (that was 2 years ago!). Here is CD 1 edited to remove the obligatory official album tracks that so many radio stations put in.

Yes
Interviews CD 1
1971 - 1973-03-26

lineage: cassette tapes of various generations > CD > PC > FLAC

Tracks
1. 1971 - Jon Anderson anti-drug message (sounds like he was stoned when he made this)
2. 1971-7-9 - Ed Sciaky s/Jon, Steve, Bill on the eve of their 1st US tour
3. 1971-10-3 - Yes 'Sounding Out' TV show recorded literally with a mic in front of the TV by the taper. There are better versions out there, but this is the real deal. This is the whole show with live clips interspersed with interviews.
4. 1972-9 - Close To The Edge songbook bonus record w/Jon,Rick,Chris,Alan,Eddy Offord. Some of this may have been recorded at Crystal Palace show on Sept. 2.
5. 1973-3-26 - Sydney, Australia w/Jon and Rick.

Enjoy!

=============================================================

Here are some rare interviews with Jon Anderson, conducted by the late Philadelphia DJ Ed Sciaky.  In addition to being a massive Yes fan, he was also a very good friend to many of the band's members.  The two interviews offered here were rebroadcasted by Ed in the 1990's. Unless someone else recorded them at the same time, I don't believe either interview has ever been in circulation.

The first interview was recorded on August 15, 1972.  It features Jon Anderson discussing the history of the band, up to, and including, Close To The Edge.  The interview took place during the tour for that album.

The second interview was conducted on February 17, 1974, during the tour for Tales From Topographic Oceans. Jon provides great detail about the meaning of the album. Interestingly, some of the background noise includes Steve Howe playing the acoustic section of The Ancient.

1-Jon Anderson Interview: August 15, 1972 (13:53)
2-Jon Anderson Interview: February 17, 1974 (10:36)

I have additional Yes interviews by Ed Sciaky, most of which are from the 1990's.  However, somewhere I have his very first interview with any members of the band.  It occurred on July 9, 1971, and features Anderson, Howe, & Bill Bruford.  Sciaky caught up with them after they landed in Philadelphia, as they were en route to Wildwood, NJ, to open up for Jethro Tull. I will continue to search my archives, and if I come across it, I will share it here.  Hope Yes fans enjoy these two rare insights into the band!
