Light hiss removal using iZotope RX denoiser on whole recording.
Volume variable from side to side on tape: boosted by 135% on sides 2 and 3 (Blackout to Station To Station).
Some speed fluctuation throughout, believed from tape stretch, most notable on Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City.
Tape flips between The Jean Genie and Blackout; Soul Love and Star; and Station To Station and Star.  In all cases, only crowd noise is affected.
Tape join between TVC 15 and Rebel Rebel tidied up.

09 Five Years
10 Panic In Detroit
11 Band Introductions / Changes
12 TVC 15
13 Diamond Dogs
14 Rebel Rebel

Fix Notes:

This recording had intrusive rumble.  I removed this using the denoiser tool in iZotope RX, which nicely removed a modicum of hiss from the higher ranges.
Tape flip during Five Years (Earth was really...opera house).
Note that the muffled sound during Station To Station and following the tape flip in Five Years is on the source tape.

11 Fame
12 Time
13 Blue Jean
14 Modern Love

Fix notes:

The source has fade-ins/fade-outs at on every side of the tape (I've left the track numbering to reflect the tape structure).  No evidence of needle-drop, however.
Repaired the cut between Fame and Time, but the beginning of the latter is chopped.
The muffled sound at the end of Let's Dance and during Fame is on the source tape.

04 Young Americans
05 Suffragette City
06 Fame '90
07 Heroes
08 The Jean Genie
09 Modern Love
10 Soundcheck

Fix notes:

There appears to have been some tape tangle on the first tape.  I removed a small chunk during Changes which was particularly bad, but left the other bits (also again during Changes and during Rebel Rebel, Young Americans and Fame '90) as they were.

Tape flip during Heroes, mended fine.

The sound check is from a completely different source, with sound quality only "fair".

05 Panic In Detroit
06 Suffragette City
07 Fame 90
08 Heroes
09 Pretty Pink Rose
10 The Jean Genie

Fix notes:

13th April:

Tape flip between Stay and China Girl loses no music, but does lose the band intros.
The source tape cuts out during Heroes, so The Jean Genie and Modern Love are both missing.
Note that the sound on the first disc, from Stay onwards, does deteriorate (to 8/10).

14th April:

Right channel too quiet on first side of tape so volume boosted to balance.
Gaps between Life On Mars?/Blue Jean and Heroes/Pretty Pink Rose removed losing crowd noise only.

David Bowie THE HUNKY GEORDIE TAPES Volume 2

Notes from the creator of this series:

As promised, here's the second batch of the audio transfers which are under the series name of The Hunky Geordie Tapes.

For the main part, this consists of transfers from over 100 concert tapes that I bought from Andre Fantarrow (andref): who managed to compile a fantastic collection of almost-exclusively first- and second-gen recordings.  Given that the majority date from the late eighties and early nineties, the represent, for the main part, a significant improvement over many of the higher-gen recordings that are in circulation for that period.

From time to time (and starting with this batch), I'll also drop in one from the tapes I collected in the early eighties.  They're not as near the master as Andre's, but again, thirty years has seen a lot of degradation for many of the recordings of these gigs that are in circulation, so hopefully they'll complement the main collection.
Since uploading volume 1, I’ve subsequently bought a further batch of audios on eBay.  This time I don’t know who the original collector was, and the provenance isn’t so clear cut: but they provide some interesting alternatives that will appear during the series.  For the purposes of the notes, they’ll be referred to as “source 2”.

There are some of Andre's tapes I will not be transferring and uploading here:

1. Any where the gold standard has already been established by Savage Jaw (unless it's a different recording of an SJ gig);
2. Recordings of standard FM broadcasts (such as MK 5-8-90, Montreal 83 and the like), that are in reasonably wide circulation;
3. Needledrops from vinyl (unless they, in themselves, have become rare and difficult to find); and
4. Gigs where a high-quality recording is already in wide circulation, where another version would simply add to the proliferation.

As it stands, it's looking like there will be somewhere between 18 and 20 batches in the series depending on how it goes.  And then there's the VHS to DVD transfers as well!

In all cases, the recordings will come with full details of any tweaks or amendments I've had to make, and with double-sided CD art for every bootleg.

SO WHAT'S IN VOLUME 2?
Actually, volume 2’s been quite hard going!  I don’t want them to all be from 1990, but I had an unfortunate run where no less than four of the recordings I’d earmarked for volume 2 fell foul of rules 1 and 3 above.  At the eleventh hour, I later found that two of the recordings weren’t up to standard (see below) and had to take corrective action.  Here’s what you’re getting this time:

09 Heroes
10 Pretty Pink Rose
11 Queen Bitch
12 The Jean Genie

Fix notes:

2nd April:

It's apparent that there was over-miking of the floor toms (present on both versions I tried) causing bass rumble frequently throughout.
Tape flip between Queen Bitch and Fashion during tape flip.  Faded on tape, repaired as best as I could.
Fade out between Heroes and The Jean Genie which clips the start of the latter.

3rd April:

Significant disparity in volume between the two channels, with the right channel oversaturated.  Used iZotope RX declipper tool to restore peaks on right channel for whole tape - successful

Joins between Panic and Detroit and Suffragette City, and Fame 90 and Heroes resulted in minor loss of music to start of latter song in each case.  Join between Let's Dance and Stay lost crowd noise only.
Join betweeen Ashes To Ashes and John I'm Only Dancing loses David saying the name of JIOD!

Unpleasant blare at the start of Blue Jean which could not be fixed without being intrusive.  The sound is a little rougher from Heroes onwards and that's on the tape.

Running a semitone fast.  Reduced speed in Goldwave, adjusting by factor of 95%.

Volume readjustments to offset original CD transfer (doesn't impact quality, as per first note).

Jump during Fame is on my copy.  The change in sound quality at the starts of Star and Alabama Song reflect tape flips.

Fix notes:

Only issue was on first song, where the sound was massively oversaturated - completely thrashed.
Issue was worse on left channel, so right channel copied over to make it mono.  Ran track through iZotope RX declipper tool to restore peaks, and then matched volume on later part of song to keep it consistent.
It's now listenable, but a distance from perfect.

David Bowie THE HUNKY GEORDIE TAPES Volume 1

Notes from the creator of this series:

As promised, here's the first batch of the audio transfers which, from this point forwards, are now called The Hunky Geordie Tapes.

For the main part, this consists of transfers from over 100 concert tapes that I bought from Andre Fantarrow: who managed to compile a fantastic collection of almost-exclusively first- and second-gen recordings.

There are some of Andre's tapes I will not be transferring and uploading here:

1. Any where the gold standard has already been established by Savage Jaw (unless it's a different recording of an SJ gig);
2. Recordings of standard FM broadcasts (such as MK 5-8-90, Montreal 83 and the like), that are in reasonably wide circulation;
3. Needledrops from vinyl (unless they, in themselves, have become rare and difficult to find); and
4. Gigs where a high-quality recording is already in wide circulation, where another version would simply add to the proliferation.

As it stands, it's looking like there will be a minimum of 14 batches of recordings to upload - but that could easily rise to 16 or 17 depending on how it goes.  And then there's the VHS to DVD transfers as well!

NOTE-So far there have been 32 uploads!!!

In all cases, the recordings will come with full details of any tweaks or amendments I've had to make, and with double-sided CD art for every bootleg.

So what's in Volume 1:

15 Young Americans
16 Suffragette City

18 Heroes
19 White Light/White Heat
20 Panic In Detroit
21 The Jean Genie/Gloria

Fix notes:

The first 6:40 or so on this recording was over-saturated.  About 15 seconds into Rebel Rebel the taper clearly realised this, as there were two seconds of extreme quiet followed by a realistic level for the rest of the recording.

I cut the oversaturated section and ran it through the declipper function in iZotope RX, which restores the wave peaks.  It was successful.  I then restored this to the start of the recording and fixed the two ultra-quiet seconds in Rebel Rebel, in Goldwave, as best as I could.  Pretend you don't know I did it, and you won't notice anything!

Tape flip between Ziggy and China Girl, so beginning of China Girl is clipped.

Fix notes:

The big issue with this tape is that it was running slow, dropping pitch by slightly over a semitone.  Speed corrected by a factor of 106% - reducing overall time by 7:43.

One done, this was still quite a messy tape.  Gaps were removed from between tracks 13 & 14 on disc 1, and tracks 8 & 9 on disc 2, without any loss of music
Gaps were removed from between tracks 8 & 9 on disc 1 and tracks 3 & 4 and 13 & 14 with some loss of the beginning of the second song in each case.
There were repairs found between tracks 10 & 11 on disc 1 and tracks 14 & 15 on disc 2, but I allowed these to stand as they were.
The join between 87 & Cry and Heroes, however, was very untidy.  The start of Heroes is clipped and in addition, there is then a sequence of a number of pauses, with some tape wobble.  I have left these as they appeared, but the first minute or so of Heroes is untidy.

Once all done, it's not a bad listen, with disc 2 slightly better quality than disc 1 IMHO.

Here is the Fourth in a run of shows from Spot on the current tour
there will be more but I cannot say how long as Bob performances are making him consider doing
more and as he's still away  I am only going to get these when he can transfer them to me. I will get the remainder when the busy and exhausted guy returns home!  I don't know how he does it, but glad he does.

Previously I have always placed Spots recordings on DIME first, I have decided to try a different
avenue and as I  have always found EL a friendly place this is now where they will be posted to
the world first. So enjoy !!

Spot and I thank you for the fine comments and thanks.

Sony PCM-M10 Linear PCM Recorder (internal mics, auto levels, low-sensitivity mic setting) > Sony Sound Forge 9.0 > cdwav > TLH (FLAC 6) > DIME > you

Scored a 2nd row seat right in front of His Bob-ness, and I was basically sitting under the stack so I decided to take George and Tony a little
lower in the mix and boosted Bob, Charlie, and Donnie on the high end (using Sound Forge)...If a better-sounding capture doesn't surface and someone
is interested in doing a more in-depth sound adjustment, I'll be glad to send the wav file along..

Completely awe-inspiring evening in the prescence of greatness.. Bob continues to amaze as he squeezes every ounce of showmanship and panache
out of his songs (and Frank's too) and most arrangements felt really fresh to me. Too many highlights to list but a real standout for me was the reworked
High Water. Everything was well played and the crowd was very well behaved and appreciative all evening. On a side note, I kinda missed Stu's shakers during
ERK as he swtiched to electric guitar.

Hoping that someone else got a nice capture from front-row middle balcony, but until then... you should really enjoy this one.

As always, do what you want with this, except sell it for goodness sake... because that ain't cool...

Setlist (thanks to Boblinks)

2. Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right (Bob on piano, Donnie lap steel, Stu acoustic guitar, Tony standup bass)

Uber stealth recording from V.  There is a bit of audience, but mostly in the right spots.  Some close clapping.  This was the first Stay With Me front and center, sans piano, on the tour.  Also note the new line in Love Sick about, “Picking my pockets while I was sleeping.”  Guess the National Enquirer got that story right.  This was V's 40th Dylan show, and he feels that seeing Dylan sing Autumn Leaves might have been the coolest thing he's ever seen Dylan do in concert.  Dylan still brings it.  Tracks done on the fly so they are not perfect.  Enjoy.

Notes:
Nice change of pace during Jazz Fest, getting to walk to and from the show, getting to sit down,
getting to be back by 11:00 pm. And in a beautiful venue restored after the flood. The house mix
was quite low, so I had to goose the levels during the first song @ the 2:00 mark, and the crowd
is loud between songs. Otherwise, sound is excellent. Samples below. Enjoy!

A SPOT  Audience Recording  107 mins

This is the last show of Spots run, though technically it  was one of the first
Spot wanted to fix a few errors so it has come out of order, but you now
have all his recordings from this tour, there are no more.
So come on guys, who's next?
Spot always gets the edge about at least one of his recordings on every tour an
this ones no exception, even though many have said they think  that this has been
one of his best tours ever

He is a compulsive browser though so do comment he loves to read em.
Its quite important that we acknowledge these peoples efforts, I hear from
mates who say that Bobs playing the same set all the time is discouraging.
That may well be so, and if it is, thats all the more reason to show them that we
appreciate that they are working  maybe with posterity more than pleasure in mind.
So when you play this recording which you are getting for nothing remember the
efforts and expense that was required for it to reach you.   Sermon over!
Good on yah guys!

SPOT an I are old (very) friends
SPOT records a lotta Dylan shows and passes them on to me to upload
I AM NOT SPOT, But its always me doing the uploading
So feet up now mate, a little breather before we go again.  Albert Hall, or sooner??

This is a SPOT recording (thanks again as ever) and the equipment used was:

This is the last show of Spots run
Unfortunately tonight we get treated to the crowds conversation more than usual
why do people pay to go to a music concert then talk thru it ???

There is in fact one missing one, Savannah to follow, its been left to last
as there were some errors that needed fixing,, more next time,

Now, how about some of you other tapers, go on its too late to stop now!

Slight  surprise this as I did not thnk he was off quite so fast
But thats the inexhaustable Spot for you. Seems he finds it harder
to NOT go to shows than to do em. Spare hma thought coz he's an ordinary guy and works and goes to the toilet like the rest of us.
An this is no cheap hobby
Sent to me via that internet thingy its his first show but not his last, I think I have heard it before. He told me to post it if it was OK, well its better than OK, its easily one of his best ever (which doubtless he will argue with me later!!)

Whatcha doin' here?? Get it download!

David Bowie The Savage Jaw Archives Volume 18

The Savage Jaw Archives.

The official SITA project in cooperation with Ziggy In Concert and Mind-Warp PaVilion.

Towards the end of the 1990's affordable home computers, CD copiers and internet connections forever changed the way that many music collectors traded their recordings. It became so much easier to contact other collectors from around the world without having to wait weeks for replies to letters, trades to be agreed and tapes to be copied, dispatched and delivered. Contacts could be made quickly and copies could be sent out quickly too. Unfortunately, the mail was still quite slow but it was all a big improvement in the opinion of many of us.

A group of traders would hang out at Ziggy In Concert forum and from there would get to know each other, arrange trades and generally have some fun whilst waiting for the mail to arrive.
(http://zic.proboards.com/  or http://www.angelfire.com/la2/zic/  for a little stroll down memory lane)

Move the clock forward to 2004 by which time many of us had "super quick" 512kbps home "broadband" and had become familiar with BitTorrent which enabled us to get recordings sometimes in hours rather than weeks. The focus for music collectors had moved once again. We were crying out for a Torrent site which specialised in the artist whose music had brought us all together, namely David Bowie.

Goodness only knows how much work went on behind the scenes but on April 1st 2004, Savage Jaw opened it's doors, inviting everyone in to join the swarm and enjoy David Bowie "At The Atlantis". Not everybody saw this development as a good thing but the vast majority welcomed the site and the recordings with open arms. Throughout it's relatively short lifespan, Savage Jaw operated strictly to the motto "Where Quality Counts". Everything available through the site was the very best available to us. Sadly, Savage Jaw as a Bowie Torrent site closed it's doors around August 2005 but left a legacy of which those involved can be justifiably proud.

Rather than forget about this legacy a fitting tribute was put together in the form of The Savage Jaw Archives.

David Bowie The Savage Jaw Archives Volume 14
