The Wall - Original Film Sessions
Early Audio Pre-release Soundboard Mix for the Official Movie

I got this in trade with a fellow subscriber of the old Brain Damage Magazine back in 1995. This has a completely different sound then what you are used to. There are some different lyrics and you can hear instruments and sounds in this mix used throughout the recording that were buried in the official release. This is a true gem. - Marooned

Two songs at the end of CD 2 are filler songs that came on the tape. The first two songs are from an unknown live Roger Waters concert. What I find interesting is that WYWH is a very quiet relaxed version without drums for the most part of the first half of the song. Nice version. Following is Brain Damage/Eclipse from the same live unknown concert date. A VERY bluesy version of Eclipse in which Roger actually asks the audience to sign along during the middle of the song. It then turns into more of a Hard Rock song in the end. Easily my favorite version of the song.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

This source is complete, one of the finest PJ audience recordings to ever surface.  The FM broadcast had
more of the intro music, which that was patched in for good measure. This is direct from the DAT ; a zero-DAE seed.
If you wish to distribute this show, please distribute these FLAC files.

Artwork and Release Notes:
This is the discs 13 and 14 in a fan-created 18-disc boxed set called "The Monkeywrench Chronicles".

Show Notes (thanks to Five Horizons):
After 'Jeremy,' Ed says "Thanks. Good singing." for the background vocals. Before 'Corduroy,' the crowd starts the
"Eddie" chant and Ed comments, "We've been through a lot to get into this room tonight. You're gonna embarrass me in
front of my mother." After 'Better Man' he notes, "What a sad fuckin' story. Wanna hear some good news? Of course it's
not as exciting as the bad news. Isn't that true? ... Ever see people rally around a spot of good news? They can take
some bad news and make it last for years." After dissing the Ticketmaster situation and the cops in "north county," he
tells how the proceeds from the difference in the cost of tickets ($50,000) is being donated to the Surfrider Foundation
"... so you can ride the waves."

This is being distributed by in tandem with, and is part of a series of
the best Pearl Jam shows in existance. If the artwork is not included, you can find it at

The taper turned off his recorder between songs, so we miss the opening birdsong of CTTE, and the transitions between the other

This is a great 2 LP set of Pink Floyd early BBC Broadcasts called Rhapsody in Pink: The Psychedelic Years., this is on Anderson Council Records. There seems to be a skip in the very beginning of the LP... only a few seconds are missed of Let There be More Light. Beautiful, quiet, and well recorded for it's age considering that it's LP sourced. There are many clearer versions of the BBC recordings but if you like vinyl rips, this one is for you. Included below is a quick review from littlesheep.

 - Marooned

Their does exist a CD release called Rhapsody In Pink (The Psychedelic Years) too, but it has not to be confused with this one that's directly extracted from the LP. The other CD in question should have been remastered exactly from this LP and should be a single CD after all with less tracks.

This *original* LP sounds very good and was used as source maybe for other CD releases too (see Dream's Factory, Silence and company). This extraction has very little LP noise - a pearl for vinyl-sound lovers.

01 Keep Smiling People
02 Let There Be More Light
03 Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
04 Flaming
05 A Saucerful Of Secrets

Total running time 53 mins 20 secs

A raw, mono transfer of Beechwoods' 4th gen cassette. I recorded in stereo then dropped the weaker channel on each side to create a mono recording. The left channel of side A of this tape is stronger and more dynamic than the right and the reverse is so on side B. There are no cuts in the music on side A. Side B begins with the part of Roger's introduction to A Saucerful Of Secrets when he says "You'll have to feel this one with us..". When adjusting the gain for the right channel of side B, I tried to achieve a reasonable match for the volume of the left channel on side A.

How does this tape compare to the 1st gen copies doing the rounds? The 1st gens all seem to originate from the same cassette to DAT transfer, whereas this 4th gen appears to be from an alternative source which is less degraded. In my view both lineages have their merits. One is not clearly better than the other and the 4th gen is surprisingly good.

These will be with original sound though many will feature as sound upgrades eventually with my two mates Yassou and Madhasse helping out

24 Crowd Noise             2:00
25 Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love         7:05

The hallmark of this show is what went wrong during "Everybody Wants Some!!" For most of the song, everything's
going normally, Dave makes the routine 1984 EWS jokes, but when it's time to come back in to finish the song,
the guitar craps out on Eddie around the 13:10 mark Dave says, "In show biz, this is what we call getting...getting
caught with your pants down here...I've always wanted to do this." Dave apparently does something wild in front
of the crowd as we hear a loud pop from the crowd, and Alex keeps banging the drums (eventually joined by Mike
on bass) until they fix the guitar problem The band stalls for about a total of 3 minutes Finally the guitar comes
back in and Dave goes, "I heard you missed us, we're back!"

That notwithstanding, this is a pretty tight show Not perfect, but tight Recording quality is damn close to the 1984
North Carolina masters Some notable points for this show/recording: this one has a really explosive start with a
solid performance of "Unchained." Ed screws up 2:53-2:56 of "Hot For Teacher" in the scale.. we really hear the
throbbing bass keyboard notes in "I'll Wait" on this recording above most other recordings....there is a tape flip
between "Jamie's Cryin'" and "I'll Wait."  Ed screws up 2:01-2:05 of EWS..."Jump" is near flawless..." beginning
of (Oh) Pretty Woman sounds a little strange for a couple of seconds...tape change in the middle of the guitar
solo...there's a longer jam than normal prior to "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" which lasts about 1:37...tracking on the
CD was done with a standalone burner, which is why some tracks might be a few seconds off This is also why the
guitar solo is two tracks, as the standalone was paused (which automatically creates a new track on standalones)
to put in the second tape where the guitar solo picks up I declined to change the tracking in any way.

The person who taped this is the same person who taped the following VH shows: Fresno 9/5/82, US Fest 5/29/83,
Los Angeles 5/14/84 This is Mark P's 1st gen copy of this show

Please throw out and do not trade any other copy of this show unless it is a verified 1st gen cassette copy.

Recommended even for casual fans.

Here it is, the infamous Meddled ROIO, feverishly sought after by Floyd fans wanting to hear what Meddler was supposed to sound like before being mistakenly editted to mono.

It came from an FM broadcast over the BBC in England. The stereo dimension adds so much to the recording, you can actually hear very
distinctly what each band member is doing.

This ROIO is just an incredible listen from start to finish. The sound is amazing as is the performance of the Floyd. Fat Old Sun never sounded better. It is important to note, Embryo and Blues came from a different original source I believe. You can read all about this title (and Meddler) at the following URL:

Setlist is as follows:

01 Fat Old Sun 15:29

In my opinion unlike some reviews reported, Ev sounds virtually identical to the Beelzebub release of these 2 shows.
With the difference that the Beelzebub release which was torrented on EasyTree weeks ago was riddled with digital clicks and index marks (I was told that Beelzebub doesnt market silver-pressed CDs and those are the results since the seeder claimed those flawes were on the original CDRs too).

Vinnie for trading this show.

comments J.V.Tol:

Fairly good sounding recording
the complete set of that evening.
Great 19 minute version of Tunnel of love
very nice improvisation by the band just before Going home.

Comments Pyroman:

Pretty good audience recording,
complete recording.
Containing The Man's Too Strong.

An early concert from the first month of the 85/86 tour in my homeland(not counting the 2 April gigs).

The tour started on April 25, 1985  in Yugoslavia  after Brothers in Arms release in May 1985 and ended in Sydney on April 26, 1986 .

Dire Straits visited 23 countries, 117 cities and played for more than two and a half million people.

All 248 shows were sold out.!!

This show is one of the best performance , Mark is very releaxed, sings different tunes during a lot of songs than normally (not out of tune!),
also instrumentally the songs are different than later on in the tour.very nice to hear those difference.

Mark makes a lot of little lyrics changes!

And what about Mark singing "they could have killed my baby"(9.42min) during "Tunnel of love" ?

**)money for nothing is still uncensored and very raw (instrumentaly wise) , Mark's sings "faggot" three times in a row. **(see the controversy note below.)

Mark seems to be a little confused at the beginning of "wild west end", kill me if i am wrong(softly please), but Mark start playing his dobro-guitar like
he wanted to play the intro of "portobello belle"

The band is full energy.... just like the audience. Nice to hear "The mans too strong" , and "so far away" during this early stage of the tour.
great "two young lovers"

The band introduction during "Tunnel of love" is stunning!!!After that the audience sings the rest of the lyrics and sweeps Mark with clapping and some "rythmic-yelling" to a killing outro solo!

The improvation jam ,which the band starts cause the audience spontaneously starts to humm a tune, is breath taking, and gives me shivers, one of the many highlights from that evening!!(listen sample)

money for nothing....the controversy

The observations of the character included references to a musician "banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee" and a description of a singer as "that little faggot with the earring and the make-up", and lamenting that the artists got "money for nothing and chicks for free". These lyrics were widely criticised as sexist, racist and homophobic statements, and in some later releases of the song the lyrics were edited for airplay; "faggot" for example is often replaced with "mother" (itself a shortened version of another potentially offensive phrase in this context).

When the song is included in rotation as part of a music feed played in stores or restaurants, "faggot" is usually turned backwards. The entire second verse was edited out for content and length for radio and video airplay, and on the 7" single. This edited version is included in the compilation albums Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits and Money for Nothing.

In a late 1985 interview in Rolling Stone magazine, Knopfler expressed mixed feelings on the controversy:

“ I got an objection from the editor of a gay newspaper in London - he actually said it was below the belt. Apart from the fact that there are stupid gay people as well as stupid other people, it suggests that maybe you can't let it have so many meanings - you have to be direct. In fact, I'm still in two minds as to whether it's a good idea to write songs that aren't in the first person, to take on other characters.”

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, in an interview with Blender Magazine, claimed that the song is actually about his band's excessive lifestyle, and that he heard the clerks in the store were commenting on Mötley Crüe videos shown on the in-store television sets.
