Queen 1976-03-22 Nippon Budokan Tokyo, Japan
Queen
Tokyo, Japan
Nippon Budokan
March 22, 1976
Empress Valley released their first Queen bootleg earlier this year, and it's a monster ! It's a box set containing nine discs of all four Tokyo shows on the A Night At The Opera tour, six of which are previously uncirculated pre-LP tapes that were first released only on vinyl in incomplete form over 40 years ago. Only 100 copies of the box set were pressed.
The March 22 show is the same source as "Get Your Knickers Off" on the Tarantura label, taped by Mr Peach. It has been speed corrected and EQ'd, and the channels have been swapped. As on that original copy the first 20 seconds of In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited are spliced in from Mr Peach's recording from two nights later in Himeji ("Princess Road" on the Tarantura label).
This is Queen coming off their creative peak and at the top of their game. Sound quality is excellent, although much compression was originally added by Tarantura.
Thanks to Masahiko for dishing out the shekels for the silvers and sending me the FLAC files, to Empress Valley for what is hopefully their first of many releases of new Queen tapes, and to the original tapers !
