Review:
Okay, first things first - this event deserves a way better recording than it has. I was exhausted
and lightly hungover, and I showed up late, meaning the best spot I could get was on the side of
the venue that the toilets were on (and right next to a pair of annoying middle-aged women who I
made a few side-eyes at; if you're ever at a show with me and I do that you have full permission to
punch me in the tits). There's a bunch more audience chatter than usual at this one, and the crowd
noise between songs clips the mics badly.
Apart from that, though, wow. Camp Cope have been a truly beloved part of the indie scene since
they formed in 2015, with their melodic rock songs about sexism, homophobia, and the power of
friendship earning them a hugely committed fanbase in Australia and abroad. All good things must
come to an end, and last month they announced that two already-existing festival shows, and a newly
announced Melbourne date, would be their last ever. This evening show sold out basically instantly,
and a matinée set (that I didn't tape, I was across town at a different show) was announced
afterwards. But this was it, the end, and they delivered.
The setlist may seem a little bit slight, only twelve songs, but it's better to give your audience
hit after hit than bore them. There's a lot of between song banter too, with Georgia happy to charm
the audience (perhaps at the expense of their bandmates). The crowd was ecstatic through the whole
night, and it's the last hurrah for a band that will be sorely missed. Thank you for all.
Personnel:
Georgia McDonald - vocals, guitar
Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich - bass
Sarah Thompson - drums
Jennifer Aslett - guitar
Angie McMahon - guest on 'The Screaming Planet' and 'Sing Your Heart Out'
"Rin" and other friends - guests on 'Sing Your Heart Out'
plus varying Auslan interpreters
Requests:
Please don't sell this - nobody, tapers or artists, will like you if you do.
Please keep this info file around if you post it anywhere else (which you're welcome to do!)
If you give this recording a remaster/matrix treatment, please message me before you do so.
I can be reached on Twitter (fuzzybluerain) or Dimeadozen (fuzzbluerain) most easily.
