-------------------------

MUPPET06 covers a performance from Peter's first solo tour. After leaving Genesis, Peter decided to go into a totally different direction, musically. The first album shows this: there's a wide range of styles, ranging from the well-known Solsbury Hill to the epic Here Comes the Flood and the humorous Excuse Me.

Peter's first tour was, like the album, very varied: it contained songs from the first album, a Genesis song, funky covers, totally reworked covers and perhaps the most interesting: early versions of songs which would eventually be released on later albums.

The set opens with Here Comes the Flood. It's very different from the album version: this one is stripped to the basics. The complete band joins in for a powerful version of Slowburn, which goes right into the eerie Moribund the Burgermeister. During the "I Will Found Out" part of the latter song, Peter used to lie down on the stage, making evil grins, while close lights were focused on his face.

Among the more familiar Modern Love and Humdrum there are a few unusual tracks on the first disc: Indigo is played here before it was released on the second Peter Gabriel album. Also White Shadow was played already during this tour. It's very interesting to listen to, because the arrangements and structure would be radically different on the final release. Also, lyrics would still have to be written.
The disc closes with the Marvin Gaye cover I Heard It through the Grapevine. During the first leg of the tour, Peter had played Gaye's Ain't That Peculiar. For the second leg, he chose to do this one. The song is completely re-arranged, with synthesizer sequences running through the whole song. One of the highlights of the set, IMO.

Next, we're going into more humorous territory: the barber-quartet Excuse Me, with Tony Levin on tuba, followed by Waiting for the Big One.

Moving towards the end of the set, we find another cover: All Day and All of the Night, sequeing out of On the Air. It shows Gabriel and the band are perfectly capable of delivering a more rocking, power-driven song. The set ends with the full band album-arrangement of Here Comes the Flood. The encore, which was just partially on the recording is a gesture to various Genesis fans in the audience: The Lamb Lies Down Down on Broadway.

This recording truly captures the feeling of being there that night. Usually I hate these kind of titles, but for this one I make an exception: hope you enjoy this INTIMATE EVENING WITH PETER GABRIEL!

WHAT WAS DONE?

First of all, after a 32-bit-conversion, the recording was set to the right speed. The recording was equalized. To improve the dynamics, multiband compression was used. Some final equalization was done and the subharmonic frequencies were removed after that.

This was also the first time I used reverb. I used just a little bit of it, which is not really instantly noticeable. It's like the salt we put in our food :)

There were a couple of clicks and loud noises throughout the recording, which were removed. Also a couple of drop-outs were restored. Some of the drop-outs are still noticeable, but they are at least less obvious and less annoying.

There's a skip in the beginning of White Shadow, two or three seconds into the track. I was not able to solve this problem, I used a very short fade/out and fade/in though to make it more pleasing to the ears.

Finally, the recording was normalized.
