The Rolling Stones 1967-04-02 Stadhalle Vienna, Austria(BJ Celebration Vol 01)

Brian's Last Tour

This project was created to commemorate the passing of Brian Jones in the night of July 2 to July 3, 1969.
This 1967 European tour was the last one he participated in.

Thanks to my accomplices nzb and BlueTurns2Grey for their advice and expertise.

25th March - 17th April 1967: European Tour.
Line-up: MJ (voc, tamb)/KR (gtr, bvoc)/BJ (gtr, dulcimer on Lady Jane, recorder on Ruby Tuesday, org on Let's Spend The Night Together, harm on Goin' Home)/BW (bass, bvoc)/CW (dr)

Part 01:
2nd April 1967
VIENNA

2nd April 1967: Vienna, Austria, Stadthalle (2nd show)

Aside from the Paris show, the other shows from the 1967 tour are of mediocre quality.
Nevertheless, they remain extraordinary documents of this remarkable period.

For the Vienna show, two sources are circulating:
The first, of slightly better quality, stops midway through ‘Goin’ Home.’ I’ve called it source #1. It can be found on ‘Groovin’ Around’ (VGP 074), and Teague Raw presented a version of it a few years ago.
The second source can be found on ‘Complete Vienna 1967’ and ‘Vintage Vienna’.
Both sources are also featured on ‘Both Wien Tapes 1967’, and a merged version, ‘2nd Vienna’, was already offered a few years ago by Funkydrummer.

Part I: source #1 upgraded
First I offer you the Teague Raw version slightly upgraded (de-clicked, phase adjusted, some flaws fixed). I kept the same speed except for ‘Goin’ Home’ (which was running too slow) on which I used the one from ‘Both Vienna Tapes’ (so accelerated by +3,15%).
01 - The Last Time
intro shortened, microgaps fixed at 0’53, 1’18, 1’28, 2’59 & 3’03
02 - Paint It Black
A few firecrackers and whistles were toned down
03 - 19th Nervous Breakdown
04 - Lady Jane
microgaps fixed at 3’05 and 3’29
05 - Get Off Of My Cloud-Yesterday's Papers
microgaps fixed at 3’30, 3’34 and 4’40
06 - Ruby Tuesday
a microgap fixed at 3’57
07 - Let's Spend The Night Together
08 - Goin' Home (faded out)

Part II: Merges from 2 sources:
Except for the two last tracks, I offer a merged version from the previous version (Teague Raw) with ‘Complete Vienna 1967’ slowed down by -3,15%,

09 - intro
coming solely from ‘Complete Vienna’
10 - The Last Time
11 - Paint It Black
12 - 19th Nervous Breakdown
13 - Lady Jane
the first 8 seconds and the last 2 seconds come from‘Complete Vienna’
14 - Get Off Of My Cloud-Yesterday's Papers
the last 18 seconds come from ‘Complete Vienna’
15 - Ruby Tuesday
16 - Let's Spend The Night Together
17 - Goin' Home
the first 20 seconds come from ‘Complete Vienna’
In the first source the recording is incomplete, so only the first part of the song is merged with Teague Raw’s version but from 3’35 onward is a different merge (between VGP 274 and ‘Complete Vienna’).
18 - Satisfaction
merge between VGP 274 and ‘Complete Vienna’

Part III: Merge with a TV report:
In early April the Austrian TV (ORF) brodcast an extract from the show that I offer you here merged with the first source. This TV report seems to run too fast so I decelerated the soundtrack by -4% to synchronize it with the 1st version
19 - Get Off Of My Cloud (faded out)
