Notes:

Continuing on with the Australian/New Zealand tour, I hope everyone here will enjoy this version of the bands performance in Melbourne that came to me in a trade I did with a friend many years ago.

Another excellent show from this tour, that was unfortunately cut short due to a sudden rain storm.

There are 4 tape recording sources of this show that are currently in circulation, although it's believed that there might be one more tape source, but is being hoarded by either a label or the taper themself.

Bootledz.com states that a possible 5th source could've been used on EVSD's "The Wethead Is Dead".

This version of the Melbourne performance is a combination of 2 of the 4 tape sources in circulation, and consists of a main recording, the other a patching source recording.

The main recording of this release is the 3rd tape source, and starts at the introduction, and ends at "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp".

The patching source is the 1st tape source, and has been used to "round off" the recording with "Dazed And Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love".

The sound quality of both tapes is quite good.

I compared this version to a 1st gen release of the 3rd tape source that I have in my collection, and this recording has some benefits, and some flaws.

On the benefits side:

- The main tape has more of the introduction/tuning up before they go into "Immigrant Song"

- Has more Plantations after they finish "Since I've Been Loving You"

- Has more Plantations after they finish "Stairway to Heaven"

- Has a bit more tape before they play "That's The Way"

- Has the original Plantations after "Tangerine", and the original "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" from the 3rd tape source.
The 1st gen release I have sounds like they were using patches from a different tape source to make it more   complete, theres a definate change in sound when you get to "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" and the patches ran slow.

On the flaws side:

- The main tape isn't used throughout the recording, and is missing "Dazed And Confused", "Rock And Roll", and   "Whole Lotta Love".

- This version as a whole is sadly incomplete because it's missing "Rock And Roll", which was played before "Whole   Lotta Love".

I don't usually like to upload incomplete recordings, but I thought that this might be something special because the person I recieved this from stated that this version is an "Original source Recording", which is a phrasing I'm not 100% sure about.

I should've asked what he meant by "Original Source Recording", that's my mistake, but I think it could possibly mean one of these things, (keep in mind though that these are only theories):

- It's from the original tape source that's been used for bootleg releases (like the Original   cassettes used for   the "Custard Pie" boot torrent that was posted a while ago).

- It's compiled from direct copies from the tapers cassettes/reels.

- It's "original" in the sense that it uses "Untouched" versions of these tape sources, without using any patches   from other sources to make it complete.

Hope everyone will enjoy.

Cheers

  1. Hi,

Thanks for all the great Zep posts!

Having problems with this link. File is too big for Rapid Gator. I don't think anybody can get this one unless a Gator member. Maybe break file into 2 links. Or Hotfile which never seems to have problems.

    Again great Zep collection!
