J.D. Crowe - banjo
Tony Rice - guitar, vocals
Larry Rice - mandolin
Bobby Sloane - bass

A short set, about 25 minutes, at the end of which the band announces a 5 to 10 minute break, and then the Kentucky Mountain Boys performed their set.

JD Crowe's "New South" ensemble formed around 1971 when Doyle Lawson left the Kentucky Mountain Boys and was replaced by Tony Rice, joining J.D., Bobby Slone and Larry Rice.  That lineup more or less stuck until late 1974, when Larry Rice left the group and Ricky Skaggs and Jerry Douglas joined.  This show was announced as the "Original" New South, or at least that's how Charles noted it on the cassette, to distinguish it from the Skaggs / Douglas lineups that followed in the mid 1970s.

As always, a beautiful recording from Charles.  Thanks for sharing!

Enjoy!
