This master recording has appeared before in good quality. A nice upgrade (identical, sound wise, to this torrent) appeared elsewhere about a year ago. I thought it would be good to share the better one here.

The back story: A year ago Butterking took my master cassette of this Unforgettable Fire gig and had a second pass at making it sound like we knew it should. Previously, I had a go using Adobe Audition, but the results were just so-so. So, using the source, Butterking used the azimuth-adjusting CR-7A. Presto! Just like being there.

I had a very good seat in the balcony, a few rows up and maybe a half-section back on the Edge’s side. Being close to the PA made for clear sound, and I had good equipment: a D-6 (not a D-3 as the previous txt. file suggests) borrowed from my friend Walter the K. My trusty Aiwa CM-30 mic had remarkable ability to capture the low end: check out Adam’s phat and liquid bass lines. I was happy with the tape at the time, and thrilled with Butterking’s remastered sound. I had to flip the tape during “Bad” so you’ll hear a brief gap.

If you grabbed this from U2torrents in 2007, you can take a pass. But if you only have the older, less-good sounding version, you’ll certainly like this.

Props to the late Walt, Butterking, and my old friends at JEMS.
