My Personal Notes About This Release:

My friends and I have been wanting to do new Zeppelin projects since we put together " Northern Exposure", ( Vancouver, British Columbia, 3-19-75, thank you to everyone who picked up that project), but because of time, and that I've been working on other audio projects that aren't Zeppelin related, we all couldn't sit down and think about what project we could all work on together.

So we  all decided to wait until we came across a Zeppelin recording we would be interested in, and could all work on, and this show was it.

What got the ball rolling on this project was that I did a trade with a collector a little while ago who stated that they had a copy of the Leicester performance who's lineage came from the master tapes, and were transferred to CD-R's.

I asked them if they meant that they were " The Diploma" raw master tapes, ( the release " The Diploma" is actually a boxset, that includes raw transfers of the master tapes to CD-R's, with no remastering or tape speed correction done to them at all, it's order is broken up in a way that matches the tapers original cassettes), and they said that they weren't from a bootleg source, which intrigued me.

So we did a trade, and as soon as I recieved the Leicester show from the " supposed masters", I started digging out my other versions of this show, and started to compare them, in track times, and sound quality to the other versions of this show I have in my collection, " Her Mystical Majesties Request" ( Electric Magic), and " The Diploma: Tape Speed corrected And Remastered Edition" ( Tarantura 2000).

Here's what I discovered:

This " supposed Master" tape was unfortunately incomplete, it was sent to me missing " Going To California", " That's The Way", and " Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" from the first disc of audio material, so that's why I've used the material from " The Diploma", to patch up the holes in the recording.

However, although the recording is incomplete due to it's missing audio material on the first disc, the second and third disc of my " supposed master" have MORE audio material then the second and third discs of BOTH " Her Mystical Majesties Request", and " The Diploma".

Here's how the track times of the second and third disc breakdown on " Her Mystical Majesties Request"

" Her Mystical Majesties Request":

Disc Two: 38:26

Disc Three: 46:01

" My Raw Masters":

Disc Two: 39:41

Disc Three: 49:54

So, After Comparing The Track Times of these two sources, my " supposed master" has more audio material then " Her Mystical Majesties Request".

There's a difference of 1:15 on the second disc, and a difference of 3:53 on the third disc, a total difference of 4:68 of seconds of tape.

Here's how my masters compare to " The Diploma"

"The Diploma" has more audio material then the raw masters, here's how the track times break down on both the second and third discs:

" My Raw Masters":

Disc Two: 39:41

Disc Three: 49:54

" The Diploma":

Disc Two: 40:06

Disc Three: 50:27

So " The Diploma" beats my masters on the second disc by a difference of 65 seconds, and on the third disc by a difference of 73 seconds, a total difference in audio material of 1:38 of tape.

After I performed the nescessary remastering and tape speed correction on my raw masters, I opened the new files, and compared these new disc times of the second and third remastered discs to " The Diploma", and this is what I discovered.

After remastering, the new disc time(s) of the second disc is 40:13, and the new time of the third disc is 50:36.

So the second disc has a difference of 7 seconds, and the third disc has a difference of 9 seconds, a total difference of 1:60.

As I've stated , the show came with some material from Munich ( 3-17-73), I've included in the torrent as some " bonus material".

The choice is up to you whether or not you wish to keep it, I mostly included it to make the recording " somewhat complete", meaning that since my original's came with the material from Munich, everyone else here can have what I have.

I tried to get in touch with the person I did the trade with and ask them about the material from Munich, and if they possibly knew the lineage of that material, but haven't heard anything back.

They probably added it on to compensate for sending me an incomplete tape.

In terms of the sound quality of the recording, I'm basing my opinions on how my raw masters compare to the sound quality of the other releases in my collection, not to my remaster.

I'm not including my remaster because I think that would be partisan, I'll leave the judgements on how my remaster compares to the other releases up to everyone here in the community.

Here's a breakdown of the sound quality of the three sources:

" Her Mystical Majesties Request", it's an excellent sounding recording, but the vocals and guitar dominate over the bass and drums, there's a touch too much volume, and there's no feeling of ambiance and warmth.

" The Diploma", has more distribution in the instruments, I can hear things that were buried under the guitar and vocals, the volume isn't excessively loud, and it gives the listener the feel of the venue, but it lacks the " punch" of " Her Mystical Majesties Request"

My " Master Source", has a bit of even distribution of the instruments, and I can hear some bass, but the volume is a little too powerful, and the vocals and guitar drown out the drums and bass a bit.

So the goal of this project was to create a remaster with balance in the instruments, yet still keeping it's " punch".

There's some soft hiss in the left channel throughout the recording, I've tried to buffer it out as well as I can without dulling the recording, the same goes for some digital noise during " Dazed And Confused" and " Stairway To Heaven", every attempt I've tried kind of dulls the recording, which is something I wanted to avoid.

This performance is one of my favourites of the 1971 tour, .fantastic playing all around by all the members of the group.

Jimmy and Bonham are especially lively at this performance, they seem to be playing off one another, and are being quite creative and experimental with the setlist infusing little snippets of soul music into their songs.

Plant was under the weather with the flu, he was complaining of the flu the previous night in Manchester.

Even though he was under the weather, he was still able to tear it up at this show, hitting high notes and not showing any strain in his voice.

The title is a reference to the band's ( sadly rare) instrumental Isaac Hayes " Theme From Shaft" inserted into " Dazed And Confused".

It's a play on the lyrics from the song ," they say that Led Zeppelin are bad mother...( shut your mouth!)"
I was mulling over title names, and I thought this one sounded unique, and it had a reference to the show in someway.

Many thanks go out to my mate Jamie for the absolutely beautiful cover art he made for this project, the cover art can be found here: http://www.cdr.vplay.co.uk/lzmf1.html

Cheers

Additional comments:
Audience recording from the City Hall in Newcastle. Very special because it is one of the rare times they play in the hometown of Mark Knopfler and Alan Clark. Cool version of In the Gallery (as usual with the late 1980 versions). Interesting intro to Down To The Waterline. Mark talks a lot between the songs which is not so usual. He tells the story about Les Boys accompanied by the band who plays some disco music and Mark even sings some. Alan improvises a lot and then plays the usual Lili Marlene intro. The most interesting version of Les Boys. Nice overall performance. Sound quality is not perfect but enjoyable to listen to. Available on two CD-R's.

ENJOY!!!

Notes:  First show of the new tour.  One hell of a show with a nice mix of new songs,
the usuals and a few surprises.  I recorded from Ed's side of the stage.  Section 104 row EE.
It's the last row of the section, but that didn't stop people from congregating in the walkway
behind me.  It's a solid recording overall with only a little crowd noise at a few spots.
TAPERS BEWARE:  I was expecting them to come on at 9:00, and they hit the stage a
few minutes early with the house lights still on and without warning. I was already
rolling, so nothing was missed.
Enjoy!

Rather short show from Yes as well as the Styx show being short. This show does not have Heart of the Sunrise
or And You And I like other of the Yes sets I have seen. The show was still really good. I think Steve Howe was probably
the most impressive of the bunch. Some of the shows I have heard on dime he was somehat buried in the mix but
he was right up front here most of the time. It had been since the 90125 tour since I had seen Yes. There was nothing flashy about the show.
Just some good enjoyable music on a Friday night.

Notes from Saitoh:
I rearranged d7t16 to after d1t2 which restores the original running order as much as possible. I spliced in part of my audience copy of this show to restore the comments after t2 and before the new t3 and after the new t3 and what is now t4. Besides that, I've retracked ALL 7 discs so that they actually start with a song and not a minute before or 15 seconds afterward... (grumble grumble... stupid bootleggers)
This box was generally aimed a puting all of the circulating sbd tracks all on one set + some strange stuff on disc 7.

Hey, great sound on this one!!

Master - Audience recording from my old TDK-Sa X C-90 Tapes
My Artwork is included !!

This concert I taped with my old SONY WM D6 professional walkman
and an extra microphone (I can't remember what microphone it was).

The sound quality is exc-!!! ..and for an open-air-concert it is really great!!!
I recorded it in the middle of the audience about 20 meters from the stage.

This was my second (and last) Boss-experience. As I saw him perform
three years earlier in the same town in the same stadium standing right
at the same place with feeling the same people around having the same
weather. Again it was long. As always with the Boss, very long. But this time
I did not have so much fun as last time. Don't know why, o.k. "Tunnel of love"
isn't that good, all in all I was a bit bored and just listening to my
old tapes again I nearly felt asleep. Started this morning with the transfer,
now the sun has gone down and Bruuuuuce is still playing and playing and playing.
The same song again and again and again. ..and when I go to bed I'm sure he's still
playing.

Anyway, it's a must for all you E-Streeters out there because it really has a great sound.

Here's the well known setlist (from the net):

01 Tunnel of Love
02 Boom Boom
03 Adam Raised A Cain
04 Downbound Train
05 All That Heaven Will Allow
06 The River

18 I'm On Fire
19 Tougher Than the Rest

oh, shit, did he really say "Good night"???
Thanks for that, Bruce!!

..oh, no, he just asked "Are you tired?" That's no good sign if someone's asking
such a question!!

..o.k. ...in between it's midnight, he still is on stage....
just thinking if there's no way to get him out of town..?!??

Heeeeeeeelp !!!!!!

Now he's singing "I don't wanna go home". And I believe him, deeply in my heart.

I never ever thought that I could survive this here but I did. He just finished.
(or I didn't have another twenty blank cassettes with me that day, I can't remember!)
Finally, I have to say thanks to Joey, Johnny, DeeDee, Marky and CJ Ramone.
They also played that bunch of songs but it only took them 60 minutes,
not 60 hours.

A Doodee Music Master Recording

"If it's a DOODEE, you know it's the SHIT®"
     - Stripeydave 2008

This post is all about freely sharing some great music, spreading the vibe of these bands, increasing sales of their goods and attendance at their shows and having a little fun.
_____________________________________________________________

Here's a sweet sounding stereo matrix of Black Mountain to fill your psych/prog rock prescription. Excellent setlist! I've heard these guys (and gal) described a number of ways. Among some of the more interesting ones - Uriah V2.0, Led Zep with full time keys, Black Sabbath with a hippie heart. Heck, all of 'em probably carry some validity when talking about Black Mountain. But any way you add 'em up they always equal one thing - interesting and adventurous music. Again, same as The Black Angels who were also on the bill, loud show. Thought this recording turned out pretty dang acceptable. Check the samples and use the democratic process. Y'all enjoy!

For those of you desiring the entire psychedelic hoedown including Stephen sitting in on a couple tunes The Black Angels set is located here -

Kenny Buttrey - drums

Lineage: Audience recording > low gen cassette > DAT > CDR > EAC(secure) > flac(8)

I got this recently. I don't know the generation - sounds like 2nd or
3rd. It's got a little hiss,  however it's a pretty good recording.
The sound is full and detailed. This isn't one of the normal 1973
shows that floats around, so hopefully this fills a gap in some
collections. I'd love to find the master on this one. Anyone?

Comments:
Nice show! Here and there some cuts, probably caused by tape changes or moving the recording device. I don't know what else to say about it. I removed the clicks between the tracks and four other clicks that appeared on the recording. 'God save the queen' stops after nine seconds... who cares ;)Enjoy! Cheers, Tim (Epic Dreams)

This is the second night of the "Southern Accents" Tour, it appears to be under-circulated in the torrent era.
The setlist didn't change much from night to night and this shows it was locked in from the start.

It's a solid show but the band seems to still be getting its legs underneath it, they don't really attack the songs like later on in the tour and at times approaches them somewhat conservatively which tends to create a lack of energy.

Quality is good needing a pretty healthy pitch adjustment and some subtle mastering to bring out some buried frequencies, recorded fairly close to the stage with very little audience noise in the taper's vicinity. The master would be quite good if it was to ever surface...thanks to my old trading partner of 30+ years MR for the files.
