A terrific FOB recording from a 1000 seat venue with a typically restrained Japanese audience, which lets the music shine through.  All preserved by a timely DAT > CDR transfer by Mr. McKenzie, for which we are all grateful.

Notes: Backup DAT copy made by the taper on two Maxell DM-120 DATs, and was transferred to two CDRs by TM. The file set includes a hand drawn note by the taper describing his location at the venue, and a photo of safety DAT, tape 1 (backup tape 2 is lost).

Enjoy!

Albert Collins 1979-01-12 Wise Fools Pub Chicago, IL

Albert Collins Live @ Wise Fools Pub Chicago Illinois USA January 12th 1979
(2nd night show of three, 3rd show was canceled) *Personal favorite*

What memories on this one. My buddy Dennis O. from high school saw him the first
show and told Albert that he had a friend that could come and record the next two
shows. Albert said to Dennis..."you want to record meeee! Wonderful!" So I packed
up the pro cassette unit and sat front row center which was about 15 feet from the
stage. I put the mics in two short drink glasses and spread them apart on our table.
WHAT A RECORDING! EXC+ ALL THE WAY! For those that know my list, EXC+ is rare. Every
little nuance can be heard on his guitar. I mean like NO ONE here on dime or anywhere
has heard on tape from Albert. Albert says half way through the show that looking out
the window he no longer can see his van. It was completely covered in snow. This
folks was the night of the 1979 Chicago snow storm. The entire city was shut down
the next day. Albert's 3rd show was canceled. I took my day off school to record the
copies and walked one mile to Albert's hotel to give him his. Met his wife as well.
He was staying at the Diplomat on Foster and Lincoln. Great long set of music. Please
understand the set list needs a bit of adjustment. As does the tracking. For the
purist in me, I want to make sure you have the best possible listen of the show.
Download and listen to the show in its entirety. THEN..fix as you please. Three hours.

Albert! Thank you for the memories! RIP
