Yes 1974-02-18 Madison Square Garden New York City, NY(without encores)

Yes
Madison Square Garden
New York City
February 18, 1974

Complete concert (sans encore)!

Lineage: aud -> tape copies (at least one generation) -> audio CD -> SHN -> EAC -> FLAC

NO MASTERING OR OTHER ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE THIS RECORDING HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED.

Audio quality aside, this tape documents a couple of interesting events for a Yes concert. The poor Firebird crashes and burns at the end of track one - a very inauspicious beginning to an otherwise great concert! Then, after Siberian Khatru, Jon asks the audience to stop using firecrackers. "It's very dangerous," he warns. But there are a couple of audible pops later in the show.

(If anyone attended this concert and can verify the date that these events took place, please post a comment or contact me. Though it is commonly believed that this recording is from the show of February 18, 1974, it is possible that this show took place on February 20.)

We are lucky to have another recording of this concert, of much better quality, from another taper who was situated closer to the stage. (See the "YesSongs 2.1" torrent at http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=236980) If only that taper had recorded the rest of the show, too...

For some time, there was confusion about whether the first four tracks of this show were recorded on February 18 or February 20. It was finally resolved, after considerable discussion, that the tracks were part of the February 18 show. So we now have the following recordings of Yes at Madison Square Garden in February, 1974:

February 18 - complete show sans encore (this recording)
February 18 - four Tales tracks only (YesSongs 2, YesSongs 2.1, The Affirmatives)
February 20 - four Tales tracks only (to be seeded on February 20, 2009)

Who knows - maybe the original recording that was copied for this one will turn up eventually, without the wobbly speed problems.

WARNING: take your sea-sickness pills before you listen to this recording. Its drastic speed fluctuations have been known to induce vomiting.
