Iced Earth
Station 4, St. Paul, MN, USA
November 13, 2008
Audience Recording: Audio Technica CMC-2 Cardioid mics -> Sound Professionals SPSB-11 mini-battery module with switchable bass rolloff (set at 69 Hz rolloff frequency) -> Zoom H4 (.wav file 44.1 kHz 16-bit) -> Audacity (track splitting & amplification) .wav PCM format (44.1 kHz, 16-bit) -> FLAC Frontend (level 8) -> ABC 3.1 -> DIME
Recorded by Hurricane62 from ~30 feet in front of the center of the stage.
The Station 4 nightclub is a very small venue. The hall is only about 50 feet wide by about 200 feet deep and has bare concrete floors and walls so the acoustics are less than desireable. This was my first time using my H4 with anything other than the built-in mics. Two thumbs up for the Audio Technica Cardioids! I set the bass rolloff at its minimum setting to compensate for the acoustics of the venue and probably could have left it switched off altogether - you'll probably find yourself turning the bass up a bit when you play this back. Regardless, the recording came out great with no remastering necessary.
