The Rolling Stones 1978-07-06 Masonic Temple Detroit, MI(Frankenstein FP 0017)
Detroit 06 July 1978
« Keith doesn't got a pick »
This one is a big puzzle, some tracks were used by the KBFH broadcast and appears on several boots. My favorite are « Abandoned In Detroit » (DAC 068), « Handsome Girls » cdn°3 (Dandelion 032) and « Keep It Simple » (White Widow) (after compare with lots of others).
I got the complete audience on « It Will Wig You Out » (poor quality) and « Detroit Masonic Temple » remastered version (RDP RS031) both very interesting to control the origin of the tracks and to complete the show.
The first comparisons show that the DAC is the real stuff and not « Handsome Girls » : The little guitar notes between the two first tracks that can be hear in the audience tapes didn’t appears on the Handsome Girls but are on the DAC. They’re some MJ comments between tracks 2 & 3 « Higher …..» that are on « Handsome » and not on the audio tapes and on the DAC ……so no more doubt I use the DAC as basic for my compilation.
The Cd n°1 is in fact the same as the first cd of VGP 068 nothing to change or added, the problems began on cd n°2.
On the show, after « Shattered » comes « Respectable » ….added at the end of the VGP because it’s coming from an audio source. So I re-order the tracks: now The Cd 2 begins with « Respectable » and « Far Away Eyes » coming from VGP audio source, then the intro of « Love in Vain » it’s now at the good place (no more after « Shattered »).
For The 3 last tracks: another deception the ones in « Keep It Simple » are the same as on the VGP….. so coming from Houston: the only solution was to use the audio tapes to complete.
RDP031 was better as « It Will… » but the transition are bad …between « Sweet Little Sixteen » was a big gap and the 10 first seconds of « Brown Sugar » was miss : I make a patch with a segment of « It Will… » after added some treble …. not perfect but better and not a second is lost.
For the title I used what MJ saying before « Tumbling dice ». I hope I understand well, but if not it doesn’t matter.
I spent hours on this one I hope others will appreciate.
