***Many thanks to the original uploader, mikezep61***

Led Zeppelin
Raleigh 4-8-70
Type II Cass(1st Gen)>X-Fi>WaveLab>Flac
Quality VG++

1. We're Gonna Groove(beginning cut)
2. Dazed & Confused
3. Heartbreaker
4. Bring It On Home
5. White Summer/Black Mountain Side
6. Since I've Been Loving You
7. Thank You
8. What Is & What Should Never Be
9. Moby Dick(cut)

Excellent show. The band is hot. Plants vocals on Dazed are a little unusual. Only Plants vocals prevent this from being Ex-/Ex quality. They have an annoying tinny edge to them.

DATE INFO:
For years I had the Raleigh tape, which was circulated as April 7th. Now and then, I've seen that people are saying it was from Charlotte on April 7th. Now this review (see Charlotte thread) mentions the Raleigh show is the one in circulation, but it is from the night before.

Bootledz, Luis Rey, and Underground Uprising say Raleigh April 7th.

But then...

From The Press Reports:

April 7th, 1970

Charlotte Observer reports... "Led Zeppelin to play at Coliseum tonight. The Led Zeppelin  will appear at 8 tonight in the Charlotte Coliseum. The British blues-hard rock group which played Friday night to a sold-out crowd of 10,000 in Macon, Georgia will give a two hour plus concert."

There is even a picture of the ad for the show, and it states Whole Lotta Love and Livin Lovin Maid (as if those were the two main songs Zeppelin would definitely play!) Tickets were $7.00 for the good seats.

April 8th, 1970

Charlotte Observer Reports... "Review of
the show in Charlotte. Over 7,500 people turned up, with some having to leave due to the band's intensely loud sound. The band played for over two hours concluding with a song called 'When Will Be The Next Time'(!)."

April 9th, 1970

Raleigh Newspaper (Unknown Publication) Reports... "Led Zeppelin put wings on Dorton Arena, and piloted the audience on a musical tour from blues to jazz, to boogie, to pure hard rock. If this show is an example of how the music of today will be accepted in Raleigh, we can expect to see many more concerts of this type in the future. The reaction of the audience at last night's performance said so."

Based on these newspaper accounts, Charlotte was April 7th, 1970 and Raleigh was April 8th, 1970.

I am still not sure which date our recording is from.

Hugh Jone's awesome Proximity fanzine Vol. 10, No. 34 (July-Sept. 1999) page 10 had an advertisement for the Raleigh Dorton Arena show on Wednesday, April 8th (it doesn't have the year on it, but it's pretty obvious that it was 1970, especially since 4/8 was a Wednesday).

Page 10 also had a review of the Dorton show which was undated, but it mentions how Jimi Hendrix played there recently (Jimi died in 9/18/70).

4/8/70 is the correct date for the Raleigh Dorton Arena show.
