An abridged version of this show was broadcast later on radio; this is the complete audience recording.
I recall being somewhat disappointed in this show (my expectations were sky high having fallen hard for Goodbye Jumbo and to a lesser extent its follow-up, Bang!), perhaps because it ended abruptly with no encore. Listening again today for the first time in years, the performance is more interesting than underwhelming. Karl Wallinger does a lot of chatting and something was clearly on his mind, though just what never entirely becomes clear. Regardless, there's some inspired playing, and if memory serves I was in the first or second row right in front of the PA, which accounts for the relative lack of audience interruption throughout most of the recording. I think it sounds quite good. Check it out yourself in the sample below. Grant Lee Buffalo opened the show--first time I ever saw them--and I came away hugely impressed. JB was with me, I think. Can't remember who else.
What a great band for the first three albums, as this show reminds.
